May 14, 201312 yr comment_158993 I have recorded a copy of the broadcast I'm just going to edit it then it will be online, Had a quick interview with Mr Wardley and have quiet a bit of information should be uploaded by 7:30
May 14, 201312 yr comment_158994 There is already a corrected version of the POV here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZM0-jEUUiE But interview with Wardley, eh? Sounds interesting! As for the video not giving away the secret element...well duh The clue is in the word "secret".
May 14, 201312 yr comment_158996 as promised here is the full broadcast with interview http://youtu.be/mSnDM3g3XLA
May 14, 201312 yr comment_158999 I really don't think there is a secret element. Still looks like a great ride though
May 14, 201312 yr comment_159001 I really don't think there is a secret element. Still looks like a great ride though I swear someone quoted somewhere that towers have said recently about unveiling the second worlds first (secret element) pretty soon around opening.
May 14, 201312 yr comment_159004 Towers have said in a couple of press reports there is a second 'worlds first' that they have managed to keep secret and will do until opening. So there's not a lot going on inside before the first lift hill, if there is any sort of secret element it will occur at the end of the ride then. As it stands at the moment The Simler has a much shorter indoor section then Saw, but a much bigger building housing it. That doesn't add up. Not that I personally think there is anything much else to be revealed. If it was anything significant they'd be telling the press about it to use in marketing.
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159005 Could the second world first be that camera recording how you feel while you are riding that was said in the broadcast because I don't think thats been done before?
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159006 I expect it will be the worlds first self dueling coaster maybe? Untill of course a camera drops and hits the other train and Alton cover the ride in scaffolding / stop it from dueling
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159007 I'm sure in that report you can clearly see that the train travels straight into the station from the brake run, meaning that nothing else happens.
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159008 We'll just have to wait for opening day to find out if there is anything extra!
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159010 I think if there was another worlds first it would be the self duelling one, it seems the most plausible, although I'm still touching wood on the backwards drop vertical lift hill although that looks unlikely, a well I can dream Plus here is some testing photos from The Alton Towers Guide
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159011 There's another POV milling about from Capital Radio which basically confirms that absolutely nothing of any mechanical interest occurs before the first lift hill... So basically, whatever happens indoors will not be a washing machine... Huzzah!
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159012 More photos from The Alton Towers Guide Lodda lodda new foliage!! here is the video from capital fm
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159014 Or...You get your ordinary ride photo...then a ride photo of your face "Marmalised"...Not sure if plausible/world's first/worth it!!! But would be a pretty cool little extra.
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159015 It would be interesting if they could somehow 'marmalise' people's faces, but I don't think it would work for on ride photos, mainly because people aren't always going to be looking at the camera / not at the right angle for it to be effective. Would love to be proven wrong though!
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159016 Looking fantastic They really missed a great opportunity with the Smiler eyes over the entrance... Would of been fab if they spun!
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159018 It would be interesting if they could somehow 'marmalise' people's faces, but I don't think it would work for on ride photos, mainly because people aren't always going to be looking at the camera / not at the right angle for it to be effective. Would love to be proven wrong though! You have a valid point there! Must admit, I had this vision that everyone looked directly at the ride camera Well, either way, no matter what it is or is not, I cannot wait to ride this when I go back in September and shall be donning my Smiler hoody!!!
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159026 I genuinely do not understand why anyone would still think there's a chance there's going to be a drop on the vertical lift. Like, seriously. We've seen videos showing it's just a lift. It goes up and that is it. Would the idea of a drop even be plausible? No. Would it fit the theme of marmalisation? No. Would it feel efficient and mechanistic perfect like the Marmaliser? Not at all. Would it be logistically possible regarding throughput? Not in the slightest. Ain't gunna happen.
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159027 I was joking about the lift hill I know it probably won't happen, but then this is Merlin, with the Swarm people were saying it wasnt possible and it would be a throughput nightmare (which it sort of is) but they still did it, like I said it most likely wont happen, but again like I said this is Merlin.
May 15, 201312 yr comment_159028 like I said it most likely wont happen, but again like I said this is Merlin. So they're going to enclose the lift hill in shipping containers? That'll explain why we have yet to see any being used
May 16, 201312 yr comment_159033 Well the maintinence shed looks like a massive shipping container, so they might of already have
May 16, 201312 yr comment_159035 Well the maintinence shed looks like a massive shipping container, so they might of already have Giant tin building =/= Giant shipping container...

Yes but let's not forget that The Swarm's backwards-facing queue system does generate revenue from the Fastrack system associated with it. All that this drop would incur is massive maintenance issues because of the stress of such an enormous weight pulling on the chain/magnet/whatever the mechanics are. It would also severely disrupt the beautiful self-duelling this ride is bound to have, should there be a competent-enough dispatch crew.
