Vinlarr89 Posted May 12, 2023 Report Posted May 12, 2023 Wonder if this will influence next steps. Must say, this could be expensive for Taziker, as Thorpe must have a clause in the contract for disruption to park operations Quote
Project LC Posted May 13, 2023 Report Posted May 13, 2023 Thorpe would have got a company to supply a design for the track segments. Taziker would produce fabrication drawings which the designer would check. Taziker would then manufacture to the fabrication drawings. The steel would be inspected at the factory and then delivered to site. It is possible that it is Tazikers fault as working with them previously we have had errors (no more than any other supplier). I think its more likely the survey or design was wrong. Quote
tactic Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Thank **** for that. Now let’s hope it fits this time lmao Quote
ML27 Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Thank God it’s been delivered on a closed day Matt N 1 Quote
tactic Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Is tomorrow a closed day too, cause if so they could probably get the coaster up within a week if everything goes to plan! Looks like I will be able to go on Colossus when I go on the 30th! LETS GO!! I know the coaster get a lot of hate because of the god awful trains (which is justified) but it's not a bad ride by any means. Quote
Vinlarr89 Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 It fits!!! Haha yes, good to see her back in one piece. Hopefully they can get testing underway soon and the ride back open! Doesnt half stand out like a sore thumb given the rest of the track looks so tired! Hopefully Thorpe bite the bullet next year and do the rest properly once exodus opens Quote
tactic Posted May 17, 2023 Report Posted May 17, 2023 Yh it’s a bit odd they replaced like 3 bits of track. Hopefully this season was just a test to see if the retrack would work and next season they will do a bigger section. I’m hoping the do the cobra roll next cause that’s probably the most unbearable part of the ride in my opinion. Trooper Looper 1 Quote
Glitch Posted May 17, 2023 Report Posted May 17, 2023 Needs to be delivered on a closed day tbh, otherwise how would SLK get their exclusive of the work? Quote
Cal Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 No messing about with Colossus, track fitted and it’s testing today Quote
tactic Posted May 18, 2023 Report Posted May 18, 2023 Nice, good to see that when the park get their stuff together they can be quite efficient. Hopefully next season we actually get track that fits, I don't want this mess all over again. Quote
Cal Posted May 25, 2023 Report Posted May 25, 2023 Colossus is opening today It beat Ghost train by 1 day, just got Mr Monkey to go! Inferno 1 Quote
Matt N Posted September 26, 2023 Report Posted September 26, 2023 In some interesting news, Scott from Your Experience Guide was told on a lift hill climb that Colossus is getting a technical upgrade for 2024 that will result in restraints being able to be released individually. This will mean that when a rider doesn't fit or needs their restraint adjusting, their restraint can be released on its own as opposed to the current situation where every restraint on the train needs releasing and rechecking. This should really help to improve throughputs on Colossus, as by my observation, the constant need to release and recheck all restraints due to guests not fitting or restraints needing to be adjusted is one of the biggest bottlenecks that's hamstringing the ride's throughput at present. Cal Posted September 26, 2023 Report Posted September 26, 2023 That's good to hear, agreed its not uncommon for all restraints needing to be rechecked on Colossus so that should seriously improve its throughput. I wonder if this also means they won't have to lift up all the restraints for every dispatch? That's an absolute faff on quieter days. On another note it was great to hear the original area music and original dispatch audio being played in the station the other week. What a difference that made Quote
Benin Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 Just get new trains and solve the problems in one go. coasterverse 1 Quote
Inferno Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 Great news!! I wonder if they'll improve anything else with the trains while they're at it? Quote
JoshC. Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 Colour me pessimistic but until said upgrade happens, I won't believe it till it happens. That said, it's a good and necessary thing to be investigating and will definitely help. It's ultimately a cheap thing to do too, so whilst something like new trains would be better, this does the job for now. coasterverse 1 Quote
MattyMoo Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 Blimey, 2024 promises to be big - what with this and another single section of track going to be replaced 🔥 Inferno and coasterverse 2 Quote
tactic Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 I’m still not sure about thorpes approach to Colossus. Yes it’s good to see they are taking care of it with the retracking and this new possible change to the restraints but surly it would have just been easier to get now trains. I don’t even think we need lap bars, just something other than the restrictive OTSRs with no leg room that we have now. Quote
JoshC. Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 Prep work is happening at Colossus, expected to be for a partial repaint: Inferno 1 Quote
tactic Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 What’s the point of painting it again if part of it’s gonna be retracked anytime soon? Surely this means that they’ve given up on the retrack completely or are not gonna retrack all of the track for a while? Quote
MattyMoo Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 Merlin doing Merlin things. I don't understand. Just like the partial support repaint on the paths, where you can literally see where they decide to stop on each support. Quote
JoshC. Posted November 14, 2023 Report Posted November 14, 2023 In an update, the park have confirmed they're repainting parts of the ride over this and next winter, as well as replacing sections of tracks. So presumably they're committing to replacing sections of track which need it, and then repainting the rest so it all looks largely the same. https://twitter.com/ThorpeParkMania/status/1724477605854781893?t=BZRA2KTVbdy3t_nA8qtucw&s=19 Inferno and Matt N 2 Quote
Benin Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 All the effort when the trains are still the biggest issue. Inferno 1 Quote
Marc Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 They also confirmed it’s getting a major PLC upgrade so that fits in with the rumours about being able to unlock individual restraints. I’d be surprised if it’s able to unlock one bar at a time without also major works on the train but maybe one “car” at a time? That said they can already unlock 2 rows at a time on Inferno but they still recheck all bars after unlocking 2 rows - but that’s more a recent policy thing than anything. Matt N 1 Quote
