July 17, 201312 yr comment_163483 I don't recall ever seeing that before! Ze vorlds 1st roller coaster zat flies above ze treetop height and dives under ze ground? Really?!! No one had ever thought of doing that before 1990?
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163496 Massive thanks for that picture ElectricBill, I always love seeing old marketing, and it looks great as a desktop wallpaper
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163507 Those charming cartoons are all from old railway leaflets that Chessington published during its early years (before they started printing free maps I think? back then they had guidebooks on park instead)
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163508 Those charming cartoons are all from old railway leaflets that Chessington published during its early years (before they started printing free maps I think? back then they had guidebooks on park instead) They really are quite lovely, sort of thing I wish didn't go out of fashion in theme park marketing. Filled to the brim with charm and character.
July 17, 201312 yr comment_163518 What I find most fascinating is that Professor Burp had a stereotypical Transylvania accent, I never pictured that.
July 18, 201312 yr comment_163543 I think the text is trying to impersonate a Bavarian accent (and when he says "Ya!" he really means "Ja!", which is German), Romanian accents are somewhat different. I agree it is surprising, only because Transylvania has absolutely no essence of Europe at all these days. I think he spoke in that voice on the ride as well, but by the time I knew BubbleWorks all his sound effects had either broken or become indiscernible. I remember at the start of the ride he would sort of squeak weirdly as the boat went past? Not that his mouth ever moved.
July 19, 201312 yr comment_163614 Dear friends, I am thinking to take my two daughters ( 6 & 7 years) to Chesingtong World of Adventures Saturday 27th of July. Could anyone tell me if is a good day or if the park could be too crowded because of school holidays? Any advice/suggestion? We will be going from London. Thanks in advance and best regards, Oscar
July 19, 201312 yr comment_163615 Hey, Welcome to TPM! As a rule the first week of the summer holidays are generally the quietest (no idea why!!) so hopefully it wont be to bad for you! As for advice I'm sure others will better recommend but id head get Dragons Fury and Vampire done as soon as possible as these do rack up the highest queues! The zoo and shows around the park are also pretty good Have a good trip!
July 19, 201312 yr comment_163625 If I were taking kids around the age of 6 and 7 I'd probably head straight for the BubbleWorks, try to get a few goes on it before a queue appears. Do some of the other small children rides around the middle of the park and then hit to zoo during the busy mid-day hours. And bring food. I'm no authority though, I only go when it's dead.
July 19, 201312 yr comment_163627 Maybe head for Zufari first? It doesn't always open on time, but if it doesn't then there is Tomb Blaster near it that you can go to. Don't head for Hocus Pocus Hall first - even on busy days this rarely ever gets a big queue (apart from during their halloween event in October) so do that once the park has got busier. On an different note, I have just seen this: http://www.chessington.com/plan-your-trip/pop-badges.aspx?mb=1 A bit odd, but fair enough.
July 20, 201312 yr comment_163654 I want them! But probably not enough to waste money on a kids meal. But I like that you can trade for the one you really want.
July 20, 201312 yr comment_163658 You can just ask them for one... Although no one really understands the point in them... There's not enough for people to trade them properly either... So as per, it's a flawed but good idea...
July 20, 201312 yr comment_163659 Thanks a lot to all for all your answers with advices and suggestions! Any new one would be welcome. Best regards, Oscar
July 20, 201312 yr comment_163682 Make sure you pay for the car park at the front gate when you get your tickets and whatnot. Not on the way out.
July 21, 201312 yr comment_163751 Yep, what Merry-go-girl said - no fun queuing at the end of the day!
July 24, 201312 yr comment_164038 I just saw this event, http://allevents.in/Chessington/Eid-Fun-Day/445493325520893 how much does it cost to hire out the whole park?
July 24, 201312 yr comment_164051 I'm fairly certain it's not the whole park, I'm assuming it'll be the same operations as a Zoo Day. Zoo, Sea Life, 3/4 rides, a restaurant or two. But to hire the Sea Life for 2 hours it's £500 plus £35 per head. And that's only catered with champaign...so I can only imagine what the park hire is.
July 25, 201312 yr comment_164053 Park hire must be super expensive...at very least £5,000 plus an amount per person I would say. Its hard to imagine any companies/groups which can truly justify this. I know BT or Sky have hired Alton in the past.
August 6, 201312 yr comment_164912 Chessington is in a right state at the moment! I'm not talking about Dragon Falls or Runaway Train (although they do add to the equasion), but the whole park is in dire need of a lick of paint as it just looks run down and awful (Wild Asia and Zufari aside). Let's hope they concentrate on this over the next closed season.
