Mitchada04
It's definitely great when you can feel that connection with your colleagues and managers that they'll support you. Makes it so much easier to learn and develop because you want to. Glad it's going well Paige! It's all a bit hectic at my work place. It's a leisure company who runs two leisure centres. The smaller site which is where I started is losing its sports hall side back to the school (it's dual use) so we're only going to have the gym at the smaller site. This has meant a huge restaffing shuffle because there won't be any managers at the small site, so at one point they were going to have to deal with 6 full time managers at one site, where only one is ever on shift at any one point (duty managers). You could say luckily, a few have moved on. One is going to work with the school and manage the sports hall side, one is moving away and another just left. It's just a shame that these people I've clicked with really well and love working with, will be weird not seeing them around. The remaining 3 though are the more experienced and they're all nice enough so it's not bad, just a shame. Good news though, after enough talks with my line manager and having learnt the larger site very quickly, I now am a full time recreational assistant starting 31st August. Okay, it's not an industry I want to be in, but it's good pay for the actual job so will help fund some more exciting travels next year, will give me a consistent rota so I can actually plan ahead instead of waiting on the casual one. Plus, it does include lots of training and relief managing so I will learn a lot from it! Plus the other full time is a good colleague of mine so we can easily swap shifts to help each other out. pluk
So I've been working at a cinema in my town for just over a month now, and despite me being really anxious at first as it is very much a customer service role and no matter what area you're on you'll be dealing with customers to some extent, I'm actually enjoying it! I had a catch up of sorts with one of my supervisors who is in charge of recruitment and the like the other day and she has said that she's pleased with me and I just need to stop holding myself back, which really reassured me! It's only a summer job however you may get kept on if you're deemed good enough, so I can only hope as I'm genuinely happy here, everyone is made to feel welcome and your supervisors and colleague always seem to have your back. Oooh, Bas is it? Mines a large salty combo if you see me coming! AJ , Kerfuffle and paige

Han30
Wow James that seems strange reading that - I forget you are now cracking on a bit (just kidding!) hope you enjoy the bar work! I'm still out of work and hate it - my anxiety and depression have been ongoing for a long time now. For the past 6 months I have done cat fostering for Cats Protection which I have enjoyed to the point of adopting my foster cat - I should have been adopting the 2 that I was fostering but sadly one of them had to be put to sleep 2 weeks ago after several health problems. Now means I won't be able to foster other cats but I have said that I am very interested in helping out the charity in other ways. I really should complete my Aromatherapy course as it means I could work as an aromatherapist but I started the course back in 2005(!!) so I don't know if they would even allow it (I have had a lot going on since 2005 - moving twice, losing my mum, recurrent health problems etc) the course does specify that you can do it in your own time but maybe 11 years is taking the pee?! Frustrating as I only have one unit left to do and then a practical. Bah James & Co.

You should definitly ask about the course, give you something to do in your own time and keep your mind off things! Han30
MachoMachine
I got a Christmas temp job at HMV over November-January which I left my old (and full time job for). I knew the position wouldn't lead to anything serious, but yesterday I got a phonecall offering me a full time job there! It's one of the loveliest places to work, so it's a start in my career! Very happy Kerfuffle, David B, CharlieN and 1 other

I am currently the Senior Business Analyst and Product Specialist for North America. I work for a company called Kainos who specialize in IT based out of Northern Ireland. My specialty is building apps with Apple who are one of our partners and delivering them in the healthcare industry. It can be extremely interesting, I love working with doctors to help patient care across the country, some great things are capable with the use of technology. I started at Chessington as a rides host nearly10 years ago now and never went to college or University.

I on the other hand pull pints and live off my student loan for my food and drink needs. Catch me in a few years hopefully I'll be a solicitor by then.
