October 29, 201113 yr comment_126148 I thought that too. How soon was it after Stealth opened was it tweeked to accelerate faster? It was 'upgraded' one year after it opened, so 2007.
October 29, 201113 yr comment_126150 ...Don't forget that Saw the ride, was made 'more terrifying than ever' the following years too. It's almost like they need an excuse to re-advertise the biggest new ride...
October 29, 201113 yr comment_126193 But it was just a marketing trick, wasn't it? They did not actually change the acceleration at all.
October 29, 201113 yr comment_126194 Yep; I think they changed the way they the measured the time or something? Thorpe advertise their main coasters for two years now it would seem; the year it opens, and the year after. Hence why we had Stealth in 06, then the 'Stealth v1.1' in 2007 and Saw in 09, then the extra of Saw Alive in 10.Will be interesting to see if that happens with Swarm, and how it happens..
October 29, 201113 yr comment_126201 Christ that really shows how gullible I am, I fully believed that they had actually gone to the effort of tweaking the accumulators with Intamin on hand; dreaming a dream clearly
December 29, 201113 yr comment_129259 Who remembers early 2006, when all the Stealth merch was labeled The Edge?
December 29, 201113 yr comment_129260 I'm sure U2 do In hindsight, I think The Edge was a tag bit corny as a ride name, but then again the themeing on Stealth is as good as corny nowadays. I think Stealth is a better name, but neither are particularly suited to the ride. Oh god... damn you winter months! You make me sound like such a pedant!
December 29, 201113 yr comment_129264 Just a shame Merlin/Tussaud's haven't put out a book full of old concept art, lost rides and old logos such as the stuff created for The Edge, before it was quickly put away.
December 29, 201113 yr comment_129273 I still think Stealth is actually a decent name for the ride. Can only assume Edge was going to be a pizza based sponsorship disaster?
December 31, 201113 yr comment_129312 Edge was cool, Stealth was quick last minute just using the project name, but we all know that Humdinger should've been the winner.
December 31, 201113 yr comment_129315 I still think Stealth is actually a decent name for the ride. Can only assume Edge was going to be a pizza based sponsorship disaster?I dont think it was, thats what caused the problem with using the name.Although personally I like Stealth more over The Edge
January 1, 201213 yr comment_129343 I dont think it was, thats what caused the problem with using the name.Although personally I like Stealth more over The EdgeI agree, I feel like Stealth can pass as a name for a race car driver (just about) like Rita; The Edge just stands like a typical ride name which tries to make it sound all big, bad and terrifying.
January 1, 201213 yr comment_129347 It would be interesting to see if any of "The edge" signage and logos are still kicking about....that would be an awesome present from thorpe to Thorpe park mania!
January 1, 201213 yr comment_129351 So by the looks of things the name change to Stealth was quite a last minute one especially if the merchandised is tagged with edge?
January 1, 201213 yr comment_129358 The signage even originally said the edge. It was extremely last minute!
January 2, 201213 yr comment_129376 Wow Would be interesting to see what their logo ideas were like for The Edge like Stealth includes the top hat to make the A in Stealth. Was it changed lbecause of the whole Pizza Hut copyright claim or is that just assumed?
January 2, 201213 yr comment_129379 Paultons put in edge much later than stealthAND NEVER BLAME PAULTONS!
January 2, 201213 yr comment_129380 I heard U2 got up in arms. :mellow:Who knows? If they called it Vertigo then I'd be up in arms on behalf of U2! (quality song and one of the most generic ride names ever).
January 25, 201213 yr comment_130750 Some nice free advertising for the park! From bbc.co.ukNot really as they don't even credit the picture to thorpe park, the sort of person that will look at that and go 'Thats stealth at thorpe park!!!!1' arent people they need to advertise to. Also if you clicked the link theres no pictures of stealth in the article itself, only other generic coaster pics.
January 25, 201213 yr comment_130758 I did lol when I saw that, then in the article itself it had a picture of two Vekomas...Rather apt description of the current financial crisis really...
