tomglazed
They need to pull them more taught... maybe add more on to the tension weights they have at the bottom of the lift.

Bubbles1
that's funny, but it can be fun to go on, especially when the one person in your group who has never been on it before is the only one to come off somehow completely drenched! Dodge2002
Was closed all day yesterday, if that's what happened to the belt then I dunno if that's because they have to do more extensive maintenance on the ride, or maybe a health and safety evaluation or something, since that could have essentially led to a fatal accident if their fortunes weren't great. tomglazed
I mentioned in the chat last night that (just playing devil's advocate here) but had both of the belts come clean off the runners, there would be literally nothing stopping any boats going up from rolling down the hill; turning storm surge into a giant game of down hill human bowling. Marc
I guess thats why it has 2 belts, so if one fails, its not a huge safety issue Of course if 2 failed thats a different ball game, but id guess its very unlikely.
StevenVig
... but id guess its very unlikely. Careful, you make it seem like it actually IS reliable
Mightymetra
Just thinking, but I was at the park yesterday and there seemed to be a tower like structure being built near the top of the lift hill. If you look on the map, there is a tower on the lift. Could Storm Surge be getting some real theming?
Sidders
No that's probably just the same piece of metal framing that's always been there.
StevenVig
At the park now an it seems there's a lot of work being done to fix this... http://twitter.com/stevevig/status/224461976062001152/photo/

BigBobJones
Anyone who walks under that ride will know how knackered it it, the sound of metal on metal at the boats go up and lots of water poring through the badly sealed joints, it needs some TLC and a theme
Doc
Poor Storm Surge. The most disliked ride at Thorpe
JackR
Poor Storm Surge. The most disliked ride at Thorpe Because it is complete and utter crap compared to everything else. There's a reason The Swarm is not the most disliked ride there... Does Storm Surge really have a fighting chance compared to the record-breaking Intamins and sexy B&Ms? Mightymetra
I still don't see why they would need those girders at the top of the lift?
c1hrisin
I still don't see why they would need those girders at the top of the lift? I'm pretty sure it was from its previous place. There was a shelter up there as a member of stallf had to keep watch. Look in this picture
Joegibbon
^ it looks so much nicer and cleaner in that photo JackR, Coaster and Coaster XTREME
Mitchada04
I rememer it well at Cyprus Gardens. That picture is no illusion, it really did look that nice with a sleek wooden station, a tower that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb and rust clear track. I also remember it having a much better loading system of 1 in and 1 out. The only thing I never got is why there was a man at the top. EC!
Looks like Storm Surge will be open anyday now, if only they would of sorted out that horrible scaffolding type structure holding the ride in place to make it less of an eyesore. Benin
^Yes, because fixing that alone would stop Storm Surge from becoming an eye sore...
JoshC.
Arguably, adding anything to the top would make it worse, as it would show how bad the rest of the ride is.. I'd much rather them put more effort into theming Swarm, or any other major ride on park, than this turd which hopefully will leave the park before the decade comes to an end... (Of course, in an ideal world, we'd all want every ride to be themed / look amazing, but treating as a choice under such difficult economic times, I know which option I'd rather have...) BigBobJones
I wouldn't think it was the same ride looking at that pic, lets do a before and after shot, hang of it would be like a make-over in reverse.
Fred
Storm Surge was open today. I didn't ride it.
Dodge2002
Was just having a look to see if there were any other models with this layout in the world, but by the looks of it this is the only one of its type. Looks like all their water rides are plagued with hideous scaffolding too, in fact its only from the distinctive scaffolding that I was sure I was looking at the same type of ride, because all of the ones on their site are waterpark models and no such dry versions seem to be on display, despite being advertised http://www.whitewaterwest.com/family_rafting.html
