November 29, 20168 yr comment_245518 I can't believe no-one has posted the exciting SW8 construction photos yet (There's some Herras fencing and shipping containers/site offices plonked in the car park)
November 30, 20168 yr comment_245573 There are pictures on Twitter which show that The Flume (or at least the part over the area SW8 will stand in) has been torn down.
November 30, 20168 yr comment_245575 Is 11 weeks of testing the norm for a new coaster? It seems like quite a lot to me for what is really a quite simple coaster.
November 30, 20168 yr comment_245576 Where are these pictures and why is no one posting links to them?
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245593 Someone's dropped one there haha - that tweet has now been deleted... that's got to be the quickest accidental leak of the theme ever!
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245595 The Wickerman as the theme. I remain doubtful, however if this information is true I will be very disappointed.
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245596 If not the theme, then a feature. I think it's legit, otherwise it wouldn't be deleted... it could become a dirty word on the forum in the same way D***** B**** was when WC16 was being discussed
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245597 That can't be real, right? Nothing says moderately thrilling family wooden coaster like a 40 year old adult horror film. I would expect the poster could have been thinking of Sticks, not Wicker. The Gruffalos friend...
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245598 Will the people knocking down the flume know about the theme of new coaster though?

December 1, 20168 yr comment_245607 I really hope not. No IP please. Smiler was a marketing genius, such a strong brand created in house. Wooden coasters lend themselves to great in house ideas. The Merlin parks are all a mess with mish mash IPs all over the place. All I want is a well themed, good wooden coaster

The layout is uninspiring and if the IP is the wickerman then I can safely write this coaster off as a missed opportunity already.

December 1, 20168 yr comment_245610 TBH, I'd rather have a Wicker Man theme than another Julia Donaldson IP attraction. One is quite enough. Then again, I really want an original idea as Merlin can do a great job with these as the Smiler has shown, rather than a shoddy frozen IP idea. Seeing those pictures of the Flume being demolished seem both exciting and sad. Exciting in the context the uk is finally receiving a major new ride in the form of an overdue woodie. However sad in that a former classic Towers ride is officially dead. It wasn't the best Flume out there, but I get the impression it was considerably better in it's past. Safe to say log flumes appear to be a dying breed these days with at least four having been removed/demolished within the last 10 years in the UK alone. The highly inevitable removal of Loggers and the fact no new ones have been built since either backs this up. There are currently just eight flumes left in A-C list UK parks and even then, at least four of those are shelf models, with just Storm Force 10 & Dragon Falls remaining the only large scale flumes still operation along with Pirates.

You forgot Loggers Leap M8, it's splashing back in 2017 don't forget. Apology accepted.
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245615 Wicker Man seems like such an odd IP to pick though, it's only going to appeal to a slightly older audience as most younger people either haven't seen the film or just don't care for it. Best bet they have for the younger audience is slapping a load of Nicolas Cage memes throughout the ride and calling it a day.
December 1, 20168 yr comment_245616 It could just be that there is a "wicker man" as a central theming feature and it's not directly a Wicker Man IP (if that makes sense).

Sadly not including Loggers right now as it's neutral to both sides currently as it's neither operating or demolished. I could also wish to say it was returning next year, but park media have confirmed it won't be unfortunately. The eight flume rides are: Dragons Falls-Chessington, Storm Force 10- Drayton, Pirate Falls- Legoland and the ones at Fantasy Island, Paultons, Pleasurewood Hills, West Midlands Safari park and Yarmouth Pleasure Beach.
