General Theme Park Discussion

Mod Edit : went way off topic,so split from Dragon Fury topic to a shiny new one... Didn't realise there was a rule on only being allowed to ride twice in a row before having to get off and go back through the queue to health and safety!? We asked the Batcher to go for a 3rd time and she was fine... Then we got to the final section before being sent off and one of the other people on the platform said we cannot ride again and had to stop the ride and get the key to unlock our seats and made us get off. Apart from that annoying rule.. The ride was running amazing and spinning fast!

  2. Unfortunately in the world of themepark saw we receive many new/updated attractions every year, we also see many close & disappear. Hi guys don't know if there is a topic for this but here goes : The nights are drawing in and Halloween is fast approaching,so our thoughts are inevitably turning to the terrors dwelling in the dark. Now, not too far away, there’s something very sinister and very real awaiting us in the shadows. Outbreak Brighton is a new attraction hidden in the depths of the Sussex countryside. It promises an extreme, immersive, physical horror experience for anyone brave enough to enter its world. Described as Secret Cinema meets 28 Days Later, crossed with Tough Mudder all in one place, it’s the ultimate destination for anyone who wants their deepest darkest fears burst into life…

  4. So today Mack rides announced they have been testing with Oculus Rif on rides Blue Fire and Pegasus in Europa-Park. Is this a future in theme parks or is it just going to stay a test? Looks awesome, I would love to try it.

A new rollercoaster simulation game is coming to Xbox. I have to say it looks pretty awful looking at the trailer. What do people think?

  6. What is your favourite coaster maker and favourite flat ride maker? Mine is Gersaulter, B&M and Maurer Sohne and my favourite flat ride makers are KMG, mondial, Fabbri and Tivoli

Attendance figures for parks around the world for last year have been revealed - http://www.teaconnect.org/pdf/TEAAECOM2013.pdf For people interested, the European figures are on Page 27. Merlin park's to feature in the Top 20: -Gardaland; 2.7million (8th) -Alton Towers; 2.5million (9th) -Legoland Windsor; 2.05million (10th) -Thorpe Park; 2million (11th) -Legoland Billund; 1.8million (12th) -Chessington; 1.5million (17th) -Heide Park; 1.4million (19th) Chessington had the biggest jump in attendance, going up over 15% (though I'd be interested how satisfied guests were with their experiences...), and Thorpe rose 11% (I guess that's what happens after a bad year a…

So I have looked around the interwebs and it looks like Cedar Fair have been installing seat belts on their B&M hypers like Behemoth and Diamondback. I wonder what you guys think about this and do you think that we could see seatbelts on the likes of Silver Star and Shambhala in the future?

MOD EDIT: Moved to new topic for polls in general as they come round frequently and generate a bit of discussion... So In the Mitch Hawker Polls Nemesis and The Smiler were voted the UK's best coasters rating at #9 and #38 respectively, here was the rest of the UK chart... see if you agree!

  12. Hi everyone, Hope you don't mind me posting this. I've been a 'lurker' here a good number of years, a year or so ago I posted an interview I'd conducted with John Wardley as part of my TV Production course. Since then I've been working in the "real world", I'm currently researching for an upcoming Channel 5 series featuring user generated content. We're currently looking for videos people have shot of 'angry' or annoyed people at theme parks or other leisure places. This is a fantastic example, except the quality is far too poor to be used: Queue jumper on Colossus: So things like queue jumpers, arguments, people annoyed about being stuck on a broken down ride etc …

  13. Hey everyone I'm 17 and I'm planning on trying to get a job at Brighton Pier in the summer time (this year or the next two).and I wondered if anyone knew what it was like to work there (like good pay/nice place to work etc) if anyone could help out many thanks!

  15. what's the worst thing that has happened to you or seen at a theme park? eg. stuck on ride for a long time, no rides open, injuries, waiting in queue because something has happened any thing like that. I have had a couple!

  16. I was just wondering what all your favourite theme park soundtracks/Theme Music is? Like for example I love this roller coaster soundtrack on Euro Mir: and I love Samurai's soundtrack too! So what are your favourite theme park soundtracks, they can be a general theme park track like the one they play at towers street or one off a flat or coaster, you could even say which one you hate! I just want to know because I feel a soundtrack really sets the mood and atmosphere for the ride!

Rightio here goes - My niece turns 10 in March (I feel SO old) and my sister wants to take her somewhere - well I suggested Thorpe because my niece is a bit of a little thrillseeker and loves watching vids of coaster and such online (she said to me the other week "I watched a POV of Stealth ). Anyway, as it will be her 10th my sister was thinking along the lines of taking her away - she has looked into Disneyland Paris but told me some ridiculous price for it - so was just wondering, because a lot of you here have been to DLP, are there any reasonable deals or good places to stay? I went back in 2000 with college and stayed in one of the disney hotels but they are a …

What is your opinion on Ghost Trains? Personally I love them! My favourites are Hinzen's haunted mansion that is from holland but comes to winter wonderland and Horror Hotel at Brighton pier. I think a ride like the haunted mansion would be good to replace SAW alive cause it's a unique ghost train in the fact that it's suspended

So, as Thorpe are completely silent on anything new for next year, and as it's very almost the new year, I thought it would be interesting to have a little discussion about all the new and exciting things happening around the theme park world this year (CBeebies Land - Woo!). This is not a 'tell me what I could just go a Google' thread, and I realise discussing lots of new things that we'll very likely not actually get to ride is a bit counter-intuitive. However, if, like me, you spend a fair bit of time perusing theme park stuff on the internet, it's always interesting to have a chat about what everyone is potentially going to be talking about this year. So to start off…

I just found some footage shot by CoasterForce of the "World's Oldest Operating Steel Coaster" and wow, it even further proves the point that an attraction doesn't have to have a 'highest' or 'fastest' or 'loopiest' record attached to it for it to be a good ride. I just thought that there should be a topic where people could share rides like these that are brilliant but not massive or well known attractions. Enjoy

  25. So I was snooping around TPR of all places and I found this which was interesting. Seems very exciting, A win, win I feel as RMC get tonnes of extra contacts from Vekoma expanding their business model to around the world and Obviously Vekoma it just puts their name out there more. What do you people think of it, I feel it is quite exciting!
