June 15, 201510 yr comment_211309 My next (foreseeable) visit to the park is for MOS in a month and I'm still expecting it to be closed. Saw may not reopen until August for all we know.
June 15, 201510 yr comment_211310 Oh sure if they are then it's understandable, but if it turns out the whole smiler thing was human error then (the non-fans that I know) won't believe that and will point to Saw's closure as evidence etc. I'm just playing devils advocate, I don't like the ride anyway lol.
June 15, 201510 yr comment_211317 If people think the German manufacturers are bad, I dread to think what they'd think of the Swiss ones and their safety records...
June 19, 201510 yr comment_211548 I like Saw for the ride, though it does come with some severe tension testing, but I do look forward to seeing it back in action.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212072 Saw had cars going round the track yesterday - not sure how long for but on 2 seperate occasions when I was in that area I saw trains going round. At one point while walking towards Samurai one went really slowly I though it was going to stall but it didn't. The trains were sat outside the station for a little while then went round again while I was on Samurai. They also had the area up to the ride closed (so you weren't able to walk past Saw Alive or get closer to Saw)
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212074 It's interesting in that the purpose of a lot of the testing is to see if they can make them collide. I'll leave it up to you all to decide if that happened.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212075 Well it won't because if they're testing them on a live track, the computer will step in and stop it before they collide, as far as we know the ride computer stopped the smiler as it should have done when a car didn't clear the block, it's what happened after that, that hasn't been explained yet.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212076 That's exactly the point though, they'll be testing it to see if the situation can be recreated... All possible avenues that might lead to another crash MUST be looked into, irrespective of whether or not there might be failsafes... Always the distinct (rare) possibility that ALL the failsafes to prevent something might not work...
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212077 To recreate the situation they need to stall a car on the track, otherwise they'll achieve nothing by just running the cars round continuously.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212079 To recreate the situation they need to stall a car on the track, otherwise they'll achieve nothing by just running the cars round continuously. By manipulating the sensors they can simulate a stalled car virtually in the computer. They won't be trying to actually crash it, that would be mental.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212080 Yeah which is kid of my point, why keep sending cars around when it can all be done in the computer.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212081 Yeah which is kid of my point, why keep sending cars around when it can all be done in the computer. Because they can manipulate the system to make it believe a car has stalled. So, the computer is seeing a stalled car somewhere on the track. Then they send a car round to see if it is possible, in anyway, to send it past the block section that leads to the 'stalled car'.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212087 I have just returned from the park on a school trip and the ride was testing today as well. The staff just said it will be testing for the foreseeable future.

They need to keep things ticking over so that when they open to the public, they don't get more flak due to breakdowns.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212092 I hope that Saw is back open before the main summer holiday period, as queues will be unbearable on the other coasters without it.
June 25, 201510 yr comment_212093 They won't be trying to actually crash it, that would be mental. The press would have a field day over a picture of that
June 26, 201510 yr comment_212094 I hope that Saw is back open before the main summer holiday period, as queues will be unbearable on the other coasters without it. Let's be honest, the queues are usually unbearable with or without one coaster open/closed...
June 27, 201510 yr comment_212149 pffff I'm visiting Thorpe park with nine friends from Belgium on the 15th and 16th of july. Also visitin Alton Towers on the 13th and 14th of july. Now smiler and saw the ride is closed. I hope saw will be open then but I think not because they have to wait on the smilers investigation. Bad news for us. Does anyone know more on the reopening date.
June 27, 201510 yr comment_212151 Just until the 'foreseeable future'. Wouldn't get your hopes up, but there are many others to enjoy!
June 27, 201510 yr comment_212156 My next Thorpe visit isn't until July 18/19th (3 weeks time) I'm not expecting Saw to be open by then anytime soon and it's likely during the MOS section of the trip the ride will be substituted for something like Rush.
July 1, 201510 yr comment_212276 I Know this is ages away but does anyone think that SAW will be reopen by the 23rd of august?? the smiler investigation should be done by then shouldnt it???
