Alton Towers General Discussion

Alton towers online que times (http://ridetimes.co.uk/) now has a section with Thrill rides and Family rides. It looks a lot better now that they are split up as before there was way too much on the page.

There is a problem though as it's new I guess, after like 5 secconds in then shows all of the rides again. I'm guessing this will be fixed very soon!

EDIT: I just went on it again, and it's working fine now.

That'll be down to your cookies rather than the site itself - you'll realise it stays eventually.

It sometimes does this on your browser, showing updated queue times before reverting back to whatever it used to show before it. It's a browser issue rather than the website!

Has any info been released on the 2014 scarefest yet? And also why does it show the scarefest stopping on the 2nd Novemeber and yet on the 7,8,9th the park is still showing as closing at 2100? If it is closing that late does it mean if you are staying over you will get ert as during scarefest last year it said you didn't if it was a scarefest date

7/8/9 November are the fireworks days not Scarefest. No ERT on Scarefest or Fireworks.

I went to scare fest first week midday which isn't school holidays for most of the UK and was maximum hour queues in general - and visited the fireworks event on the Friday, and was maximum 30min queues all day, besides the evening where it started to get heaving due to the fireworks, and the fact pretty much all the rides close prior to the display and then open for an hour or so after.

Weekends at Scarefest can be busier than fireworks, especially towards the end of the event. The first weekend usually isn't too bad and during the first week (not half term) it's pretty quiet.

On fireworks days everything from Thirteen all the way round to Spinball will close for the show. As they have to get all guests out of these areas the queues will start to close mid-afternoon - expect The Smiler to close very early! The show is at 7pm, with rides reopening at around 7.45ish - as soon as they've been checked for any stray fireworks. Rides between Mutiny Bay and Forbidden Valley stay open throughout. Note that to get to X sector or Dark Forest after the show you will be forced to use the path near Spinball as the path on the other side doesn't open straight away. As a result this route is always very congested - the paths to Forbidden Valley are busy too but far more manageable.

During both Scarefest and fireworks a small number of rides close at dusk due to lack of lighting, this includes the Flume and Skyride. At the beginning of Scarefest, this won't be until around 4.30-5pm, but by the end of Fireworks it'll be around 3.30-4pm

JohnD has got all the timings right for fireworks. As for queues, we got a lot done on the Friday morning but it got much busier in the rest of the day. If you want to ride in the dark after fireworks you will get 2-3 rides in but may have choose either mine train / nemesis / air OR Thirteen / Rita / Oblivion as crossing the park will eat into too much of the hour or so you have for dark riding. Thirteen & Nemesis are great in the dark, particularly the sections of Thirteen in the forest area. The gates next to air into the car park will be open usually so you don't need to walk back to main entrance after riding air and Nemesis.

The first weekend of Scarefest is gypsies. The first week of Scarefest is dead and a great time to do if you can.

Fireworks are utterly fantastic too, and well worth it. Just don't expect to ride much unless you arrive in the morning (as everyone arrives for one ride and fireworks, literally).
