Benin Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 I think anyone who even thinks about sticking backwards rows on any existing coaster should be subject to an immediate and severe amount of pain. Just no. Messers B&M, your seats are now reserved on Furius Baco in the back row... pluk 1 Quote
JoshC. Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Given how apparently hit and miss experiences on Smiler can be (though always miss for me), backwards rows would be murderous. At least with Swarm, the ride is smooth, meaning facing backwards doesn't cause any major issues, even if it makes some feel queasy. Quote
Matt 236 Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 The Smiler backwards would join be a series of painful inversions one after one. I say leave as it is and get Swarmy going forwards at the again. After all, Merlin aren't six flags Coaster 1 Quote
Whatever Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Smiler is fine as it is, doesn't need turning backwards. Quote
Kerfuffle Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 What if The Smiler was capable of 3D visualisations...and you were given glasses upon entering the station building, which are worn in the correction block...AND the ride! Quote
Whatever Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 What if The Smiler was capable of 3D visualisations...and you were given glasses upon entering the station building, which are worn in the correction block...AND the ride! THAT could end up like the nintendo 3DS though, a total flop and people having seizures. Kerfuffle 1 Quote
Mark9 Posted September 5, 2014 Report Posted September 5, 2014 THAT could end up like the nintendo 3DS though, a total flop and people having seizures. A time travelling post?! (The 3DS has sold 44.4 million worldwide and has sent an extremely low percentage of people into seizures). Graw 1 Quote
Kerfuffle Posted September 5, 2014 Report Posted September 5, 2014 Yeah 3D glasses might be a bad idea actually. What about the effects of the VirtualBoy? (Where most people got migraines) 3D glasses on The Smiler could bring about those. Not seizures thankfully! Quote
GladiatorFanKyle Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 Saw a video of the Voodoo Jumper funfair ride in germany and noticed in its starting mode they played the smilers theme tune. Has alton allowed this or is it just a case of using the music ? I thought theyd have to get a licence from merlin to play it surely?? Quote
Fred Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Fairgrounds.. legally paying for music or asking for permission? . Tbf it's royalty free music, but they won't have asked for permission. GladiatorFanKyle and Kerfuffle 2 Quote
StealthRider Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Danters Extreme Ride was using the Sonic Spinball announcements when it was around my area and I don't really think Merlin will care for fairground rides using their themes/announcements, they aren't losing anything from it Quote
Kerfuffle Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 "BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!" I have absolutely no idea how TPC got all of this! JamminGamer 1 Quote
JAMMYD777 Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 ^ Bottletop, the creators of all of The Smiler graphics, uploaded it to their vimeo account, they do it with a lot of Alton Towers stuff, there's some Sub Terra stuff there as well. TPC simply reuploaded to YouTube. Here's bottletop's channel if you're interested. http://vimeo.com/bottletopdesign Kerfuffle, pluk and JoshC. 3 Quote
pluk Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I just struck me, seeing this topic, that I still think 'The Smiler' is an absolutely god awful rubbish name for this ride. Some things get named and strike me as unusual, or quirky, or not to my taste, but when the ride comes about it makes sense, or over time it just fells right, but not this. It's just crap. JoshC. Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Watching that video really makes you realise just how many missed opportunities there were for this ride's overall experience. Those clips really epitomise what The Smiler is all about - it's creepy, intriguing, but also a little bit funny. Yet, you really don't get the same vibe from the queue line and such. It's a real shame that the best video and storytelling of the ride comes in the ride's shop which most people won't pay enough attention to to absorb it. Quote
