October 2, 20168 yr comment_242321 Rode it a few times on Saturday, quite varied rides as to smoothness, differing trains.
October 3, 20168 yr comment_242342 My views on the Smiler seem to vary these days. The appearance and state for a three year old ride, is rather poor. Not to mention faulty projectors not being fixed, flooding and the jolts on the last two inversions. That being said, the Smiler is definitely a twisted steel wonder to watch and look at and the ride can be enjoyable depending on which train your on (which varies all the time).
October 3, 20168 yr comment_242347 Apparently it went technical while I was at the park, and people I spoke with later, said that the precautions taken to ensure all was operating correctly were about twice the amount of previous runs, and managerial clearances now included take a while. It's not a favourite ride for me though when we went on, there was no queue and we walked straight back on for a second ride.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246482 TLC has begun! From the AltonTLC twitter. Hopefully they'll deal with a lot of other things with Smiler.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246484 Great that they're doing things like this, but is repainting a staircase really worthy of posting to a TLC Twitter page? Or should it just happen?
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246488 Well, at least it's a start. Kudos for them for actually maintaining something that isn't new or a safety hazard. Well done.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246489 Everything under this should just (and does at many other parks) happen... It's that simple...
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246491 The Twitter account is just a joke. It's all basic stuff that happens at every park and trying to sell it to the public as "towers loving care" is insulting. I get they are trying to show they care but the very existence of this account proves that they don't and that it's all about brand image.

They would fail the very basics of running a business if their brand image wasn't important to them.

I am aware of that, but what I'm trying to get at is that they are selling the absolute minimum as exceptional care for their parks when in reality it's far from it.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246494 In the past four years both Nemesis and Oblivion have been repainted. Not bad for a company that doesn't give a damn.. All that picture TLC tells me is that rainbow stairs age quickly.

I agree the work is what should be done - but to me the towers TLC account is something which is to appeal to enthusiasts mainly over closed season to see some of what's going on - it takes nothing away from the investments the park actually make into new attractions etc.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246497 Towers really has enthusiasts wrapped around their little finger. Post a picture of a set of stairs being repainted on Twitter, get 100+ interactions, multiple fansites positively comment on it on their social media and pages of discussion across many forums. Means that hundreds, possibly thousands, of people become aware of something that otherwise would have gone unnoticed by the large majority and many enthusiasts wouldn't have commented on. I might not like the idea of the Twitter account, but it's easy to see why they'll continue using it.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246501 The stairs still look like a bad paintjob on a local kids nursery room. A general rule : paint steel cheaply and it will wear off. Who really cares about this. Where are the scenic maintenance teams doing this year on year to keep everything looking good?

January 8, 20178 yr comment_246504 They should've just painted the risers. That would have provided the same visual affect from the bottom just without this wear.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246510 Well they should have got a better idea. If they wanted the steps to come across like an ironic colourful stairway to 'post correction' heaven then they should have been designed and built that way. Instead it looks like they borrowed some spare evac stairs from a gay pride nightclub and stuck them in. Shame because the idea is actually quite funny, could have been very clever and entertaining. Same about the entire ride really. Parts work well and feel really gripping, but other times it feels like its been built on a budget of £2.
January 8, 20178 yr comment_246513 Haha, oh goodness. What has it come to when a park is celebrating the fact that its painted a stairwell.
January 9, 20178 yr comment_246523 I just can't believe they haven't even painted "AFTER" in the Smiler font in the finished article, talk about lack of attention to detail.
March 19, 20178 yr comment_248245 I didn't know where to post this (Galactica?, The Smiler?, 2017 topic?) Either way, Alton Towers posted this on Twitter yesterday evening: https://mobile.twitter.com/altontowers/status/843190282229288960 Muy interesante!
March 19, 20178 yr comment_248251 My favourite reply to that tweet is "Please tell me it's a new fence"
March 19, 20178 yr comment_248256 Not going to lie it's rather funny seeing people freak out over something that's pretty obviously just a rebrand of the Big 6 challenge.
March 19, 20178 yr comment_248290 the fact that you can conclude that from a poorly photoshopped image like that is astonishing. Please go and do some investigation work for the met. I think you'd do great.
March 20, 20178 yr comment_248318 I've had a good think and anylsis of that image the park have posted, and have come to the conclusion something is coming to Alton Towers this year. Could be anything for all we know.
