TPJames
That changes everything if the track is fully up by next I think we could definitely be seeing the ride opening in may! Of course there is all the theming to work on etc. but if alton towers get their skates on we should be seeing it open in may!
holtjammy16
Since March 13, 2009 It wasn't at all as bad when it first opened to how rough it is now (imo, everyone seems to think differently of Saw's rougness haha) At least with The Smiler you have lapbars and new cars so hopefully that won't be a problem
pluk
The rather talented Nemesis94 has updates his NL recreation o show what the ride will be like according to the changes the game and supports seem to suggest. They go out of sync due to the pacing changes, so here's a comparison of the two halves... 1st half http://www.youtubedoubler.com/?video1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DYMTyJHVWdQU&start1=10&video2=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dliu91c_r9dU&start2=172&authorName=FAV 2nd half http://www.youtubedoubler.com/?video1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DYMTyJHVWdQU&start1=70&video2=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dliu91c_r9dU&start2=230&authorName=FAV Inversions aren't everything, but this keeps getting better and better for me. stretchy
Some pics from todayIn the car park we have a number of new sections, like the walk ways hereand these, some of these ones look like lift hills, this piece looks like a show scene as it has wheels and breaks. My photos of the ones with just wheels came out even more blurred than the above. My camera wants to auto-focus on the trees in the foreground.Meanwhile on park the ducks aren't too impressed. This one seems to believe that the water its standing on is broken.Yup it was mighty nippy.Over on The Smiler site there hasn't been much visible change from yesterdays photos. pluk, Ryan, Liam T and 3 others
RideAddict
Track is planned to be fully up by end of next week. I'll believe that when I see it. That new video on YouTube is incredible. I know it's based on after the changes, but it certainly gives a good impression. I missed the bit flying over loos though, I'll have to watch it again! holtjammy16
Wow the changes are looking like a great improvement in that video, I'm really liking the length of this coaster as well
TPJames
Counted 13 inversions Plus at least one in the building so my guess is 14/15 inversions
RideAddict
It's advertised in The Sun today that as of this Saturday, you can get free vouchers worth £92, and also try a ride on The Smiler. You'll be happy if you get the vouchers, you'll be very happy if you ride The Smiler before May!
Benin
Gerstlauer coasters are well known for being quick to construct... Although there aren't many footers in the middle section, there's a HUGE slab of concrete, supports can be pinned into that instead of set into footers... Both options are viable and used by many manufacturers... End of this week might be a push though... We won't know progress unless there's another fly-over or Towers continue their sudden love of construction pics... Stokesyboy
Mark9
What amazed by is just how much track there is left to put in place. Really hammers home that this is a very long roller coaster for the UK. Stokesyboy
RideAddict
That video that appeared on YouTube yesterday gave me an indication of its length. If you had to compare its length to another ride, what are we lookinmg at? Twice the length of Colossus? 3 times as long as Air? Or is it too hard to tell? Gerstlauer coasters are well known for being quick to construct... Although there aren't many footers in the middle section, there's a HUGE slab of concrete, supports can be pinned into that instead of set into footers... Both options are viable and used by many manufacturers... Yes, I was always amazed at how quick Gerstlauer constructed Saw. And still it disappoints. But a huge slab of concrete is just ugly. Colossus may me a decade old now and it's footers amongst the water look aged, but I still love how they're dotted about. They're only concrete rings filled with conrete - the rings are actually quite cheap, considering the amount of different purposes they can be used for in building. Benin
The huge slab of concrete that will be covered by paving... So it won't be ugly, it'll be full of people right underneath the ride in one massive plaza looking up at a giant ride and spider... JoshC.
That video that appeared on YouTube yesterday gave me an indication of its length. If you had to compare its length to another ride, what are we lookinmg at? Twice the length of Colossus? 3 times as long as Air? Or is it too hard to tell? The length is 1170m; so 3 times the length of Air. If the new No Limits recreation is wholly accurate, then the outdoor section is about 110 seconds, which would still leave about 55 seconds of ride time indoors. Definitely has to be onride pre show(s) for that to happen.
RideAddict
*dribbles in excitement...wipes chin* As long as it's not as slow as Air.

I read somewhere that The Smiler will be three times the length of Rita, but even that is 640m so that doesn't quite add up either, otherwise The Smiler would have to be 1920m long. Ah, my mistake, was getting my facts mixed up. The press release back in October said Smiler will be 3x the length of Oblivion, 3x the ride time of Rita and 10km/h faster than Air. Sorry 'bout that! Mattgwise
Thats Ok. That press release was what I remember reading too. Still seems strange though as it definitely seems longer than three times Oblivion in the video. but based on the length given it should only be three times the length of Oblivion.
Benin
Not really, Oblivion's length comes mostly through the 180ft odd drop and tunnel, it's extremely minimal but the height factor means that the length is actually reasonable... Smiler also has a second lift hill, automatically making it take longer...
RideAddict
What is the official length, or don't we know? Also, trains/cars...are they going to be individual cars with 2 rows of 4 like on Saw, or are they actual trains? I bet they will work on a similar sync system to Vampire and Th13teen, where there has to be one on each lift hill for clearance etc.
