Alton Towers

General discussion about Alton Towers Resort

  1. This topic is for anyone with a Question or Questions regarding Alton Towers. Also, this topic can also be for Alton Towers discussion is general.

  2. Discuss the fun, fast and zany ghost train that is....Duel! What I find funny about this ride is that it is definetly one of my favoriots in Alton, just beating RITA and AIR! And that zombie just before the tunnel scares the pants off me every time!

Well Alton Towers is hosting an adrenaline week this week, which I will be attending on Saturday and Sunday! According the website, Alton will also be opening its gates for February Half Term, but without the full line up. Details on the "We love Winter" page on the Alton Website.Discuss Alton Towers News here!

From what I gather, the annual Scarefest hearse has appeared on Towers Street once again (earlier than normal too I think?), so it seems appropriate to start up a thread. And to start things off, there's been some reductions to the opening hours, with the first Mon-Fri of the event being cut for 10-9 to 10-7 (linky - http://www.altontowers.com/useful-info/opening-times/#tab-themepark-oct). A bit of a shame, especially as it won't even be dark by then, but I guess it could be a lot worse. Many on other forums are kicking up a fuss about it, so it will be interesting to see if we see another infamous Towers Reversal there... As for what attractions we'll see, there's be…

  5. Hi guys. In recent years, I think it’s fair to say that Alton Towers have had a bit of a nostalgia push, for lack of a better term. In 2023, the park revamped Duel into The Curse at Alton Manor, which harked back to the ride’s roots and brought back something more akin to the Haunted House from 1992 (while Curse is not the Haunted House, it’s a haunted house with enough shared DNA that I think the two could be conflated with one another by a casual visitor). In 2024, the park retracked Nemesis. And in 2025, the park have opened Toxicator, which brings back a ride akin to the late Ripsaw from 1997 (while Toxicator is not the Ripsaw, it’s a Top Spin with enough shared DNA t…

What will the 2013 coaster be or you hope it to be.I can see it being the worlds largest '2nd hill' drop at over 250ft thinking that the valley is already 200ft deep so having a chainlift a little higher will work a treat especially if they have it like the steel phantom coaster at kennywood! A woodie would be nice but as John and worwenna said at the Th13teen evening Alton towers do not want a woodie because they have done research that people dont like woodies or for those who want it closer to home 'to dangerous' but I challenge both alton and the guests researched into saying there are hardley any woodies left in the UK for people to try and or trust!

We need some more alton topics, so here another one!Well when Rita was announced it got alton fanboys pretty excited. But since its opened, its recieved mixed reviews. Its like Marmite, you either Love it or you hate it . Rita has been criticised for its long queues followed by short ride times, but some people find it a great ride full of airtime and great turns.Launching from 0 - 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, it takes you on a journey through UG Land, with twists and turns everywhere, and 3 airtime hills in the center of the ride. Thunder Rock Rally Radio plays around the ride, which some people have critcised also for not fitting in with the UG Lands prehistoric theme, and th…

Hi guys. It's been 4 years since Alton Towers' 8th Secret Weapon, Wicker Man, opened, so I thought SW9 deserved its own speculation thread! I made this thread, however, because we've now had confirmation as good as any that SW9 is well and truly in the pipeline; Nathan Graveson, a designer who worked for Intamin and designed the likes of VelociCoaster, Toutatis and the Parque Warner Madrid launch coaster, has announced that he is now a project director for Merlin Magic Making, and has stated SW9 to be one of MMM's upcoming projects. He said the following, and the bolded explicitly references SW9: "I also have a massive announcement. Since my recent depart…

Hex is a fantastic ride - on of my favourites at Alton Towers! As we know, Hex came about during the restoration of the towers. The bookcase was removed to reveal a doorway behind it, after unbricking it, the secret vault with the branch of the oak tree was stored in there.I'm a little confused - was this bookcase in the Octagon, and if so, was it where the steps are where you go up to the ride? e.g "behind" the central column of the Octagon when moving forward through Hex.Also, is that the branch tree in the middle of the Hex ride? I touched it briefly as we left. It felt real. It looks a little dusty yet I'm sure it's been treated to preserve it for the ride, after nearl…

Well it's March and The Smiler is opening in May and The smiler discussion forum started the year Th13teen opened so why not start talking about SW8. I understand its March and The Smiler one was started in August but no matter, the TT discussion started last year in may so I think it's a crackin' time to start discussing as it were. Write what you think will be the next big Alton Towers ride is gonna be in your opinion, as well as what area of the park (excluding X-sector cos that would be stupid) and what theme you'd like to see. Let your imagination go wild! Lets discuss!

Well I just relised we have no ride topics..we should have some, so ill do one. Makes sense.Well Nemesis has been considered by most as one of the greatest if not greatest coaster in the UK, some people say Europe. Now I cant say this, considering I have never ridden it, so these are just other people views, not mine. Considering its in a pit and has a fairly small drop, lots of people wonder how it picks up so much speed. I'll say dont question it, just enjoy it .Share your views and reviews of Altons Main Coaster.

  12. Hey guys, I was on a nostalgic binge earlier today and decided to listen to the OST from Futurama The Game. However, after listening to the OST titled "New New York" then I could distinctly hear a section from Air's old soundtrack at 0:42 [Now Galactica] This has made me think if any other music from Alton Towers has been sampled in different media. Does anybody know other examples where music from Alton Towers has been sampled elsewhere? I.e. The black hole's audio being used to promote space mountain

  13. Hi guys. I have exciting news; it appears that Alton Towers is holding a consultation about building an “indoor attraction” on the former site of the Alton Mouse, within Coaster Corner (the area behind World of David Walliams): Those “in the know” apparently think that this is to be the next Secret Weapon. I’ve got to say, I think this is brilliant news! A new indoor attraction will definitely add some variety to Alton Towers’ lineup, which should hopefully allay recent concerns about the park lacking filler rides! With this being in/near TWODW, I doubt that it’ll be anything too thrilling, but I think the park needs more middle-ground things with a …

Seeing as though the Thorpe Park thread went down nicely, thought it might be fun to do one about Alton Towers too. Again, I’ll go first: The original Haunted House wasn’t that great, and people only hold it in such a positive way purely because of nostalgia and if it were to be recreated 1:1 today would be a flop.

Comrades, I have planned for a new bowling alley, at Alton Towers Resort. Here it is. All it needs, is your vote. 14 bowling lanes, to be made an even number, inspired from 14 roller coasters from the past and present, and also inspired from the 13 tables in the Rollercoaster Restaurant. In the restaurant itself, for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the Runaway Mine Train was table/seat number 2, until it the Wicker Man took its place in the same position, also as the 2nd seat for each table, for the 2018 season, and has remained ever since. However, the restaurant has The Smiler as number 12, despite having 14 inversions. So I hav…

I’ve just come across this on the Alton Towers website Share massive giggles, mega thrills and major glee with your family in 2022 at Alton Towers Resort! As well as amazing new attractions, the Resort will be hosting fantastic events and entertainment for the nation to enjoy! “New attractions” are mentioned,to me this means that at least 3 new rides will arrive. Personally I think that the “new attractions” will be located in The World Of David Williams and CBeebies Land. I even think this article is hinting at a World Of David Williams expansion for next year. How do you all interpret Alton Towers saying “new attractions”?

Breaking news just on the BBC, two Smiller trains/carriages have crashed into each other on The Smiler today, no other confirmed details other than the site/area is being evacuated and an Air Ambulance is on site. Will post links when available. Edit: Alton Towers statement one carriage was empty and the other had 16 passengers on, collision was on a low section of track at slow speed, read into that what you will.

  23. According to Towers Times, Merlin have filed a trademark for the name 'The Alton Towers Dungeons'. Taking it very much at face value, that suggests Alton Towers are certainly planning on getting a Dungeons-style attraction. If true, it wouldn't be the first attraction to get a Dungeons within it - Warwick Castle does have the Castle Dungeons, which is a 45 minute ish experience. I'm... intrigued by the idea. There's enough real history, and scope to embellish the truth (see Hex), to create a fun and unique Dungeons style attraction. But would it really work in a theme park environment, especially at a park where it's a stretch to do everything of n…

Plans online... http://publicaccess.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/publicaccess/tdc/DcApplication/application_detailview.aspx?keyval=MRVOO7PGA8000&searchtype=PROPERTY&module=P3 Not exactly clear if it's getting the rumoured IP brand attached or just getting a massive refurb, but the big thing is the removal of the Tent and a new Marquee in place... Couple more bits of theming added as well to the existing rides, but nothing actually new ride wise being added... Still looking at the plans though... EDIT - Further reading Things to be removed are the Tent and Dung Heap, to be replaced by a new ents stage and assorted play equipment... Defe…
