Alton Towers

General discussion about Alton Towers Resort

  1. So Nemesis at Alton Towers is without a doubt one of the, if not the most intense and amazing ride in the UK. So is it the best invert in the world?

  2. Started by Sheepie,

It's something we'd all like to see I'm sure. It's been 6 years since we've had a secret weapon, do you think anymore are planned for the future? If so, then what?!Personally I'm hoping for a giant, flying pair of GHD's. but that's just me

  3. Hi all, hope you are all well. I'm hoping someone can answer this...……………...so here goes as it's bugging me and trying to find a live video that was hopefully uploaded THAT year. Does anyone know which year it was when they did their annual fireworks, which if I'm remember rightly had something to do with a guy riding ''air'' and holding onto his hat and going back in time? I was thinking somewhere between 2002-2005 but cant remember what year this happened. I know they played ''your disco'' by Randy Jones but that's all I can remember I'm afraid. Can anyone help and does anyone remember what year they did this? …

Does anyone know how much bounce back tickets were for next day park entry last year at Alton Towers? Or indeed how much they are likely to be this year?

I think Spinball Whizzer is an overrated ride that gets ridiculous queue times compered to the better spinning coaster at Chessington! It lacks theminmg and is incredibly slow loading! However you get some good air-time and a slightly different ride every time! 8/10

I feel that Oblivion is loosing it's magic!! It's way to short. Yeah it brakes at the top and goes into a hole vertically but compared to the new rides of today it is nothing. I would like to compare it with Project Dylan (2009 Thorpe Coaster). I would feel there would be no comparison!

I am intending to visit Alton Towers on the 18th July with some friends, and I would like to know how busy it is around mid July. Do schools go to Alton towers on this day or is this, hopefully, a quiet day? Thanks.

  8. From TowersStreet Facebook today: Alton Towers have submitted plans for a FoodLoop style restaurant in Forbidden Valley, taking the place of the current Air shop. Does this suggest that a new large shop is likely to replace it in the near future...and therefore that a large new ride is imminent for the area? Link to plans Pretty cool, hey! Here's a short video of the Europa-Park one:

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers was a fantastic addition to the park back in 2007. I love it, and this is certainly one of the best-themed courses I've ever played on. I generally like mini golf.Which is your favourite hole? I'm still trying to decide. :PDiscuss Extraordinary Golf here.

Air first opened in 2002 (That WAS air right), and during construction known as SW5. It was the first B&M Flying Coaster ever built, and was recieved as either a slow or boring ride, or just pure brilliance. It may look Slow and boring (due to height and noise restriction), but looks can be very decieving... apparently. Discuss it, Hate it, Love it...

Everyone just pretend Alton Towers is yours to manage. And to prevent arguments, you might have unlimited money, no planning permission needed and unrealistic aspects. Basically, try not to shout at each other because their park is 'unrealistic', that is the point, it's yours. Cheers.I'll post mine later.

Quite inevitably, here is the ultra super, duper, amazingly cool poll and the choice is simple. What is your favourite (so in other words, the best) rollercoaster at Alton Towers. Make your choice and then you can discuss it if you wish or not. Or whatever. I chose Nemesis because its just pure relentlessness from start to about 2 seconds after the vertical loop. But you may choose differently. And below are some pictures of those rides, just in case you've forgotten what they look like. Edit - I totally forgot Rita. The Smiler - The Worlds first rollercoaster with three different opening dates. Air - So technologically advanced it got superseded by two other f…

I'm mainly talking about places to stay and eat here - but it doesn't matter. There's a nice little village called Kingsley Holt, specifically a nice little modern cottage which we make an annual trip to - one road village with a lovely community, two pubs (The Blacksmith Arms, which is closer and The Railway [Inn?]), the latter serving wonderful food and is owned by nice people (who used to own the other pub on our first two trips). 15 minutes away from Towers by car, 1-2 hours, 15 minutes in the other direction is Stoke and Birmingham, Manchester is about 1-2 hours away and there are LOADS of football grounds (Stoke, Birmingham, West Brom, Walsall, Villa wh…

Took a trip up to Alton Towers yesterday and was very impressed by Mutiny Bay.Battle GalleonsYou certainly do get drenched (similar wetness as Tidal Wave) on Battle Galleons, but the ride itself is fantastic. The theming is top notch and the layout of the track is well designed to soak other boats and innocent spectators! The ride also uses fresh water, slyly put into the boat every time it docks. The only down point to the ride, is that the targets around the course appeared to do very little. At the end of the day however, why shoot targets when you can shoot people!Heave HoThis is another good addition to Mutiny Bay. Very similar to Chessington's Griffins Galleon, it ha…

  20. It's long been rumored the Enchanted Village is not the only new thing for Towers this year, and that the old beastie is finally to be replaced with a kiddie coaster on the same site as part of Ceebies expansion. Photos taken by TowersStreet during the Christmas event seem to show that work is indeed happening on the site. So what's it to be? I've heard Zamperla custom kidie coaster. No idea on the theme though, what Cebeeies property fits? How about Pingu? Make it all look like ice and the cars styled as a sliding Pingu on his stomach.

I am horrified to see you don't have a fireworks topic for Alton Towers. Consider that rectified. Anyway I was on park today and when not observing a certain new ride shed components, I took some more fireworks construction pics. As you enter the park you see the following across the lake. Notice not only the low lights but also the 3 towers. A zoom shot through the fog at one of the towers. Scooting round the back here's one of the towers and another Zoomie Zoomie Some lighting The third tower Some boxes lights that don't want to become parents the lights at the front, must be new as they still have the cellophane on them And you would think that that was it,…
