Cal
Haven't seen Vortex with this amount of scaffolding before, looks like we won't be riding it in the dark this weekend (Image from theme park incorporated)
Benin
Well now it's just not worth going then is it? pognoi
RobF
Vortex we had noticed had become increasing shacky and jolty at points this year , dunno if the gears have finally given up ...
Cal
Well now it's just not worth going then is it? Don't know if this was aimed at me, or a joke or whatever. The fact Vortex is closed hasn't put me off visiting at all, I just thought that it was worth mentioning that it won't be available for at the least the first few nights of Fright Nights. Ian-S
It was probably aimed at me cos I didn't goto Alton at the weekend due to Smiler & flumes being shut so I'm failing in showing my support for the park when they need it (never mind that I would have faced a 10 hour round trip to do it) and went to Legoland instead Coaster and pognoi
Whiteknuckle
Having ridden Maelstrom at DMP yesterday makes me know why I Don't ride Vortex. A much better ride, and more capacity.
OldFarmerDean
While maelstrom is far superior... I still enjoy vortex and gutted that it looks like it might be closed for the rest of the season Whiteknuckle
lewumbrajumbos
Scaffolding coming down .. Thorpe Park mentioned on twitter that only Tidal Wave and Samurai will be closed over this weekend, which sounds promising! Yay, Vortex seems to run really well after it's been closed a while as well! Hoping it'll be ready for Sunday Daniel.S312

OldFarmerDean
I'm surprised it seemed like the scaffolding went up and down so quickly, was getting worried it wasn't going to be open for the rest of the season... We know what Merlin are like with permanent scaffolding, cough Rita haha!
GladiatorFanKyle
Vortex although really shaky and jolty has been getting some serious height on it this year. during the hour where only hotel guests could ride it ran beautifully (despite the shaking) it went full height every time! Really hope it's open for fright nights!

OldFarmerDean
With Slammer having been closed this weekend, and Samurai still closed... This afternoon Vortex has reopened! Matt 236, LK_ and GladiatorFanKyle
OldFarmerDean
And having now been on it myself... I can happily say it doesn't jolt and reached a great height easily, so was probably an issue with the motor and possibly replacing it? Something worth noting, when it went down for quite a while this year before it reopened and still juddered but the ride cycle seemed longer... Well this time the ride cycle seems short like before. Mattgwise
Vortex was certainly running well today as mentioned by Dean. Was a nice surprise to see it open. I have to say I didn't feel the cycle was any shorter than when described above.
Cal
Saw engineers working on it in the morning so wasn't expecting it to open, so was happy to see it open later. Possibly the best ride I've had on Vortex, like said reaching maximum height very quickly. Cycle didn't seem any shorter to me, if anything it felt longer? Coaster
The cycle was ridiculously short at around 9:15pm today, there were only about four full swings. OldFarmerDean

Ah I rode it at around half 7ish, there was certainly a lot more than 4 full swings though.
Han30
Glad it's back open - I do like Vortex event though it is probably the ride that makes me feel the most nauseous
pognoi
Good to hear its back up. On saturday we saw it trying to swing but it looked a bit pathetic, the seats were spinning but the pendulum couldnt get more then 2 feet in either direction. Good news, good job thorpe! GladiatorFanKyle
The swing is back to normal!!! (still shaky) Also I tried to go on vortex just before I left at about just before 7 and I was told they were not letting on any more single riders and I'd have to queue up..... any reason why this happened? :/
JoshC.
Vortex seems to have lost its judder. I rode it once last season and it was really juddery and put me off it for the rest of the season. But today it was really good; one of the best cycles I've had on it for a few years! tomglazed
What surprises me is seeing the complete range of experience Vortex appears to give particularly when the ride gets "weaker" and doesn't reach a high swing height. Is it really plausible to think it's parts/motors wear out so quick as to require as much maintenance as we believe or it's mostly operator settings?
