Logger's Leap
Matt 236 and 3 others reacted to Marhelorpe for a topic
Is this just an amazing coincidence given the timing this was posted on Instagram, or are Liseberg being proper trolls to Thorpe right now? Either way, I love it! And just to remind everyone, Liseberg's FlumeRide is now 46 years old and still looks and runs better than any remaining log flume left in Britain......4 points -
The last post in this thread before today was August. I think we have better things to do on January 1st than change the thread titles for new attractions. But, yes, you're right. It should be named differently, and I have done so. Thank you!4 points

A terrible decision. Loggers Leap was, as has been said previously, a very popular family ride which filled a much-needed gap at Thorpe. It was of a far superior quality to the likes of Storm Surge and had a much higher throughput to match. The loss of this ride further displays Thorpe's absolute lack of direction, when they prioritise IP attractions over maintaining key staple attractions you know there is something wrong. Furthermore, the communication on social media regarding this over the last 3 years has been absolutely unacceptable. Saying it's closed for maintenance (at the very first stage), then that it'll make a splashback, saying the area was under redevelopment (looks like that's gone well... 3 years?!). It's a joke. Thorpe is in a dire state and this further highlights that. 3 years to announce that it'll never return, that's 3 years that they could've been refurbishing it or rebuilding its replacement. Also, remind me why we have to have one-in, one-out with things like this? Like, Wicker Man at Alton is great but now the park only has two water rides (one of which is broken, the other has only worth doing on the hottest of days). Why not build a new coaster, and keep the water ride? -- In other news, Pleasurewood Hills have announced today that their Rattlesnake roller coaster (closed in 2016) will reopen this year. Isn't that nice.3 points

Bit of closure at last for a few on here. The way they closed and deliberately misled people over the last three years is the real story here. I made my peace with Loggers closure years back and I think my favourite memory of this ride will always be riding it for 7 hours for charity back in 2004. It will forever be one of my favourite log flumes for its short and snappy ride length, decent drops and surprising level of wetness. Whilst there are technically more superior log flumes these days, Loggers was a classic. The way Thorpe treated this ride towards the end of its life with its historical significance was pretty shameful IMO.3 points

2020: A Mack Wild Mouse themed to Operation Yewtree 2021: A children's playground with year round live scare actors 2022: "The Thorpe Park Dungeon" 2023: The Octopus Garden rides return in the Saw area 2024: The whole "resort" falls apart from neglect, Merlin assure everyone that they are looking into options and that despite nothing being open, there are tons of events to look forward to on the beach this summer, including The Cannibal Holocaust Experience and the return of Love Island (which got cancelled in 2022) 2025: The Thorpe Housing Estate The worrying thing is that whilst I'm exaggerating, it's not by much. Merlin really do need to go.2 points

Couple more interesting responses from the park (I'll try and screenshot them in later if I can be bothered)... Interesting they're keeping the "thrilling destination" line - very much still points to being the young adult market. Maybe not the most sensible direction to be promoting given the loss of a family ride. Now, I don't doubt that Thorpe had plans to reopen Loggers Leap. In fact, in an alternate universe, it may have even reopened this year. It's closure came at a time when Merlin were tightening their own H&S policies, and log flumes required a lot of work to fall in line with that (no doubt Loggers moreso due to its location over a lake). The money wasn't around, but maybe they hoped it would be. The thing is though, the communication has been appalling. From just quietly removing it from the website, to cheap fences to hide the ride, to just saying they hope it may return it. And then, 3 years later, to announce what they really should have done 3 years ago feels very much like a 'oh s#!t, we can't afford to fix it up and everyone keeps mentioning it, what do we do??'. It's rather jarring. It's a situation where they're damned if they did and damned if they didn't, but it's one they put themselves in. One can only hope that whatever they offer over the next couple of years can help improve the overall resort offering and create a new, decent, family attraction2 points

Logger's Leap

I don't know why everyone thinks an RMC is gonna happen over Loggers Leap. We forget the 5 golden rules with any new permanent Thorpe attraction these days: 1) Must have an IP and world-first. 2) Must be a dark theme. 3) Must be a short-term investment. 4) Must involve actors. 5) Must be naff. An RMC or hyper-coaster would break most, if not all these rules; stuff Thorpe clearly doesn't dare want to compromise on!1 point -
So a “help” section has been created - maybe if they’d maintained the ride it wouldn’t of lost its magic? https://support.thorpepark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002574552-Will-Loggers-Leap-be-re-opening-1 point

Goes to show how different things could have been. A true shame.1 point

Can someone edit the title of this topic please, as it is not technically a completely "new" attraction as it uses the old Hocus Pocus Hall building. #petty1 point

Given that Thorpe's social media has taken a bashing lately, only fair for Alton to receive the same. I'm all for banter between parks, but for there to public admittance that it's going to take a long time for part of the same company to 'sort itself out' (especially since it's actually true) seems like a rather large faux pas, surely? Maybe I'm just getting old and don't get social media. Or I'm just looking for things to moan about. But I just don't get it.1 point

But it was new for 2018? The fact it's 2019 doesn't change that...1 point

TPM TP Opening Weekend Meet - Sat 30th March
Matt 236 reacted to Marhelorpe for a topic
Course! I've got a good feeling my 46th attempt at getting that perfect, flawless and reliable run-through is finally gonna occur this time, at long-last after 2.5 years of trying! 30th March 2019 will be the day Ghost Train finally operates 100% as intended I reckon. I'm veeeeeery certain nothing will go wrong this time!1 point -
What I would do: - Keep Saw Alive and Living Nightmare as is. They're both decent enough, and don't need changing urgently. - Do Vulcan Peak properly. Do something different. Don't make it a maze with people jumping out at you, not bags on heads. A tour in a mysterious Jungle maybe. Maybe even a little outdoor section where the ride used to be on the exit for IAC(Miss Hippo was it?). A real chance to do something unique. - Scrap Dead Creek Woods, and reverse Platform 15. Start into the tunnel, and use it for storytelling. ("They disappeared into this tunnel never to be seen again"). Then go through the village, and when you get to the bridge, make that a tunnel so you can't see the water. You emerge to see the train, and all it's efeects, then you have a nice section to do stuff with, until at the end you finally reach said Platform 15 and have something to really end it well, then exit there. Think that would remove most of the problems with it as it is and would make it a long maze with proper substance throughout. - Extend Blair Witch slightly into the end of Dead Creek. BW was properly good this year, just needs to be longer. Can't start from the station because of new Platform 15, but still room to expand into Dead Creek slightly. - Scrap Do or Die, and instead make some changes and put actors in TWD: TR and call it 'Live' or 'Extreme', and really push that as a maze. You could even skip this to save money if needed, or no longer need two TWD mazes. - Where Big Top and Do or Die was, put in a new indoor maze, and make that the big headline maze for the year. Be that Big Top reimagined or what. Just needs to be capable of carrying the event a la Big Top. - Do something over by The Swarm. Give people a reason to go there. Heck, even do a similar maze to Sanctum, where survivors of The Swarm apocalypse need help or something. All in all, 8 mazes. Saw, TWD:LN, Vulcan Peak, TWD:TR Live/Extreme, Platform 15, Blair Witch, Big Top replacement and Swarm based Sanctum replacement. (Oh and keep the Big Top roaming actors, they were brilliant) IMO, this would be a good improvement, and more importantly, realistic too. But hey, I'm not an expert1 point
