Alton Towers General Discussion

Not sure I'd get straight back on it... personally think they'll have a struggle reopening. Its a shame because its a great ride, but its really hit the press.

Although, I suppose that's mainly the times we live in - all the twitter feeds and live updates do build the story more than it would have in the past.

Such a sad day, do hope these people have a quick recovery - last thing you expect on a pleasant day out.

Whilst it's been a very gloomy couple of weeks for Towers, there's finally some good news!

The food Loop style restaurant proposed for Forbidden Valley has now been approved at the park as well as a hotel extension (which I'm not sure what's happening there).

Can't wait to see this restaurant launch at the park next season.

The patch Alton Towers is going through at the moment is very difficult.

A lot of rides are suffering, not least The Smiler. Ripsaw, Th13teen, Rita and Nemesis Sub Terra all have technical issues at the moment.

- Th13teen has problems with the hydraulics and has only been using 2 of 3 trains.

- Nemesis Sub Terra has had the restraint redesign which means too many people can't ride.

- Rita is just throwing a hissy fit. Quite rare for Rita as she's quite reliable these days.

- Ripsaw... no idea.

It's so unusual for so many rides to have problems at AT!

I hope they get back on track soon.

Not exactly uncommon. Rita is like Stealth, has massive stretches of little downtime then gets hit by something. Ripsaw is just old, like Rameses, it's long overdue departure. Enterprise was meant to leave instead of Submission as it was more problematic and the older but stayed. Sub Terra has got the new restraint thing which will be settling in and 13 is always an odd one because the ride is plagued with problems from the word go (good job Intamin). Not great, but for those rides it's not unheard of.

We're looking at a period now especially where flat rides are being ignored as potential additions... And when they get removed, we end up with fewer rides overall... Look at Dark Forest as an example of how bad this can make an area...

The ABC attractions in Merlin have been part of an over-arching experience, which is fair enough, but there's still places for flats in the industry...

Unfortunately, flats by generally all main parks at the moment are being ignored or even culled, give thorpe 10 years and it'll probably be just quantum & detonator left.

At the moment Towers ride strategy seems to be to build roller coasters, kids rides, roller coasters, kids rides and the odd dark ride.
