As Monks walk spoils the fun, two new rides are coming to Old Town next year. A rockin tug and jumping frog from Weymouth Sea Life. Still better than DBGT....

Once again plans having gone in yet. This is due to the multiple preagreements in the MTDP. With small stuff like this (which will count under the small rides which can't have a static height over 25m etc) and buildings, as long as they meet those requirements they're fine. Runnymede just need to be informed on what it'll look like and add it to the floorspace bank etc. The locals literally have no care about a small shop or jumping frog. The only iffy one was the billboard for Swarm.

These attractions that have been shipped from Weymouth Sea Life for use at Thorpe Park is a strange one to me. It's almost as if Thorpe Park have finally admitted that alienating your 3-7 year old audience from the park after Octopus Gardens were removed in 2010 was a mistake and are trying once again to attract them. But is it too late and would it be enough to persuade some families to visit Thorpe over Chessington I wonder?

 

One can hope the park will be working on getting Loggers Leap back open in addition to this, but it will never happen. The cheaper route is obviously the better route in the park's eyes, but I am intrigued to know what is happening to Canada Creek right now as that area seriously needed updating.

Anything in the park is better than DBGT, so that's not a huge feat!

This addition feels very strange, but at least it tackles the limited amount of kids rides on park.

 

Hopefully this should give some life to The Old Town - now it just needs a proper distinct theme...

I am very happy with this decision, especially with improved dbgt for thrillseekers and these rides for the family. It also means more rides that are less sickening and who ever says no to flats. Overall, VERY good news!

Whilst this may be the case they are staying, its worth remembering the rides in Weymouth are maintained by Thorpe. It may be the case its just easier to work on them there than send engineers on a huge round trip daily for a month or so.

Weymouth is closing it's ride section apparently. 

Why?

Maybe they're being used for the new finale of the Ghost Train. I'll accept a rockin tug ride as a simulation of the demons attacking any day.

I wouldn't even joke about that...  

Im not sure why anyone finds this bizarre - Merlin have some junior rides knocking around - thorpe park needs some junior rides - it makes sense really.

 

I expect we will see some sort of planning permission submitted - be intresting to see how they will fit in!

Yay for cheap thoughtless quick additions to temporarily plug a hole that needs much more than a Rocking Tug and Frog Hopper to solve...

Well it's a better investment than Ghost Train at least.

 

It seems a bit naff for a park on Thorpe's scale to be instaling these but as a temporary thing it makes sense, and if they already have the rides available then why not really?

 

Of course, it'll completely kill the theme of Canada Creek/Old Town but they've all-but done that anyway.

I'm not hyped but I'm happy that Thorpe are paying atteantion to this area

Comes across as desperate. I'd hope for it to be at least themed to Old Town, but lets face it, Zodiac has been spinning around in Drayton Manor colours for 12 seasons now.

I wouldn't say chucking in two kids rides constitutes looking after an area where the main ride of it has been left moulding for a season...

This is a pathetic move, I have no words. Simply and utterly shocking

I would rather them spend money on loggers as if that opened it would be incredible but as we know it will never happen

Certainly a bizarre one of a park like Thorpe importing in two second hand kids rides, but if they are widening their target audience with these can't be all bad. Theming them would be nice though.

 

Still makes me sad seeing Loggers all rusted up and abandoned.

Including the log flume? That thing got me back into flumes! Plus did you know IT HAS REAL CROCODILES!?!?!?!?!!?!?1?1/!?

 

I didnt get to go on anything other than the flume last year so Idk about the Rocking Tug, it was being marketed as the main ride though.
