Han30
Seems a bit odd them painting random bits of track - not getting my hopes up personally but who knows? Also to see the difference in the two pics really shows how skanky the track is - okay, the ride is 13 years old now so a bit of wear and tear is expected but Inferno is only a year younger than Colossus and the track looks so much better
Matt10
With this new paint on just one of the four rolls, it looks odd and shows just how old the ret of the paint is but already this seems to have had quite a lot of wear. As well as this new paint, in the queue line in three points there are now little, hopefully temporary, wooden ramps which go over a drainage pipe from the water beneath the vertical loop to the construction site and they really stand out and look odd. BenC
More newly painted parts of Colossus in evidence today - all seemingly randomly placed. Completely agree that the new paint shows just how bad the original track now looks... So here's a starter for 10: Can you spot the odd section out? And finally, this is probably the least flattering photo I've ever taken of Thorpe Park - yummy green Medusa pit... Suspect these are test patches... but the quicker Thorpe can do the whole ride, the better! In 2011, Universal Orlando managed to get their Incredible Hulk coaster repainted in night shifts, over 2 months, with no ride downtime... pognoi and Cal
Cal
Can't wait to see it finished, it looks soo much better Never realised how much it needed this.
Ian-S
I wondered whether it was test patches too, too see how long it lasted. The big section painted is quiet worn already.
Tom
There will always be marks where the wheels make contact with the track, I wouldn't call that worn
Ian-S
Well the paint has worn away where the wheels have run over it, what would you call it, skid marks?
Celia Mae
Still, the fact that most of the track is still covered in rust probably isn't helping the wear of the new sections, as surely the wheels pick it up as they go round and then deposit it on the new sections when they get there. Or that's what it looks like is happening anyway
SteveJ
All rollercoasters on the face of the planet have a bare metal strip running the tracks where the wheels wear the paint off. And Colossus track is not actually rusted, that would be a massive engineering failure - the dirt is usually oil, general muck
Ian-S
Steel rusts, just it takes a very long time to. I assume Colossus is made from galvanised steel?
Matt 236
Chances are it'll all look great when it's completely finished, hopefully there won't be much of a train skid mark Cal

alexander
So much happiness. I hope that they do the medusa pit up too to coincide with the repaint
Han30
Have you seen the skank in the medusa pit? It looks like green bubble bath (not in a good way!) still not holding out hope for a track repaint but I will be pleasantly surprised if it happens OldFarmerDean
Ian-S
Seems strange they're doing it in patches rather than starting at a point and continuing around. I bet these rides are like the Forth Bridge, by the time they've finished they'll have to start again
Han30
This is one of the reasons why I don't think there will be a track repaint- it makes no sense to just plop paint on random places!
Ian-S
It's like they're testing different paint compounds for longevity and wear.
Dodge2002
It goes to show how often Merlin repaint their rides if they have to do test patches because they have no idea which paint to use... pluk and OldFarmerDean
Matt 236
I'm so happy to see this Might be me, but I'm sure the track next to the painted section has been given the first undercoat too.
JoshC.
So much happiness. I hope that they do the medusa pit up too to coincide with the repaint I've heard that the pit could be cleaned up and sorted out over the closed season!
