pluk
Pot luck unless you - ask for cycle 6. You may receive. - manage to hit the actual last ride of the day, they usually stick it on a better cycle then. Vid 1 is older than vid 2, you can tell by the lack of trees. Look at the difference in speed! I don't know if that is more to do with the cycle or to do with the ride slowly dying. That second video is one of a truly pathetic ride that shouldn't be bothered with.

pluk
Haha, I didn't even notice that. WTF is it doing there? Odd place to stop!
sully1311
Surely Saw couldn't of ran out of steam there? On topic: Wow that 1st vid looks like Samurai in proper action. That 2nd video looks like Samurai in action the vast majority of the time now.
EC!
Well the first vid was 2011 the second was this year but the video I first posted with the three windmill sections was this year as well maybe that was like a once in a week thing or maybe the operator went nuts
EC!
Maybe I'll ask. If I can't get cycle 6 I'll at least try and ask for a quite intense cycle. If I can't oh well I'll just have to ride the cycle which makes the rides feels like its slowly dying. Plus if that model dyes can't they just go back to mondial who make samurai and just ask for a newer model of the ride as I should think they are readily available because of there popularity on the fairground circuit

Marc
Err? Theres a choice of 6 which the operator chooses based on the queue times etc.. unless thats changed in the last few months?

Mer
Yeah when I was there the ops could change the cycle, so presumably this is still the same. It's been a while since I've had a decent cycle tbh. Also is it me or does it seem to get good right at the end of the ride?
Stokesyboy
Also is it me or does it seem to get good right at the end of the ride? Yeah just before it stops!
Mark9
Thats probably deliberate, to leave you with a good impression instead of a dismal one. Think Colossus's final inline or Nemesis's final corkscrew but in flat ride form
dragon2000
Visited on Thursday. For the 30 seconds it was giving a ride it was quite decent. But it was literally 3 rotations in each direction. The zero-ing problem seems to be getting worse each time we visit. This time we spent about 30 seconds being held sideways at the highest point before then rotating soooo slowly a full 720 degrees around the platform. Just the zero-ing took 2 minutes. Love the ride when it's running properly but this season the operation is just depressing...
BigBobJones
We noticed today that the ride seems to have been improved, we were really getting thrown around today, maybe we had a lot of weight, but we have not been thrown around on previous visits. Not that I would complain.
Mitchada04
It seems Samurai is having some major work done to it with all of the arms taken off, air gates removed and alot of the flooring taken up. Slammer seemed more likely to open in the near future as its blue sheets have been removed. Thought it would be nice to take some pics of Samurai in this unusual state as it suffers from the deadly curse of Slammeritus. Hopefully it will be back in operation soons as it always looks great at Fright Nights. Luke_A, EC! and JoshC.
Coaster
I am not surprised to be honest, the last few times I went on it it was running at almost half it's usual speed, we barley flipped at all and when we did it was slow and forceless. Let's hope Samurai makes a full recovery for Fright nights, it is amazing in the dark! (As long as it is running fully.)
BigBobJones
I've had a few good spins on it recently, but the problem with it 'Windmilling' and taking forever to home is annoying.
Benin
It's been dying for ages though really... Kinda inevitable... Needs a good proper work up or replacing with a newer model...

Dodge2002
Poor Thorpe, they must have a massive maintenance bill this year. The slammer being down, Stealth needing a new cable, Rush was late opening because it needed extra maintenance, Storm surges belt slipping off, and now this... Mark9
It's been dying for ages though really... Kinda inevitable... Needs a good proper work up or replacing with a newer model... I'd say get rid and not replace. Whats the point of bringing in a new one which will begin to suffer the same problems after five years. Poor Thorpe, they must have a massive maintenance bill this year. Just yearly occurances for theme parks although having Slammer and Samurai being bad bad rides must put question over to how long they both have left. Stokesyboy
There's a sign outside the front of Samurai's queueline saying that it won't be returning till 2013 which is a shame for FN as it's good at night! Wonder if it'll be relocated?
sully1311
Shame, really wanted to go on it on my visit on the 24th! Hopefully this maintenance gets it back up to full speed again! Last time I went it was really poor and took ages to zero.
Mitchada04
Well that's a real shame. The park has by far the best variety of flat rides but also the most unreliable. We really need Slammer to re-open now.
Mattgwise
Whats the point of bringing in a new one which will begin to suffer the same problems after five years.I know Samurai has had a fair few problems over the years, but the ride is 13 years old and has been operating 8 years since going back to Mondial before relocating at Thorpe Park. Maybe a replacement top scan could be the answer, I would guess Mondial have improved the way they have built them since 13 years ago, even if only slightly. I know it's time must come to an end some day but I do hope it is not any time soon.
