Rumour has it Thorpe Park knew they were thinking of removing it, were about to contact them to purchase it as a replacement for Rumba for 2019 and then they went and freaking removed it.

October 15, 20186 yr comment_260851 They are leaving Rumba Rapids empty of water for 2019, adding a rope to the side and re-opening it as a year-wide "Vulcan Peak II" due to the resounding success of the groundbreaking, immersive maze "Vulcan Peak". Source: Lord Sanbrooke
December 28, 20186 yr comment_262077 Well I think we can probably expect from next year, it’ll probably only run three boats with a staff member in each and only be operation two days a week and school holidays between May and September.
March 22, 20196 yr comment_263691 Anyone who's seen Jack Silkstone's video will see that Rumba is now using the converted boats, which feature gates at all entrances to the boats. Presumably a measure to discourage people jumping out the boats. I am under the impression that some boats have not been converted yet, so it's possible the ride will open on reduced capacity at the start of season.
March 22, 20196 yr comment_263694 Wouldn’t be surprised if we see Rumba on limited boats during the first few weeks/months of season. I suppose if it’s actually open that should be an achievement.

Pleased to say that the doors don't make the ride even less wet than it was previously! Not sure if it's due to changes or the fact I was in a boat full of adults but the bottom of the boat scraped a few of the underwater pipes/logs when I rode.
August 1, 20196 yr comment_265656 Some updates taking place on Rumba Rapids. Could it get a full gradual repaint over the summer, or is it testing for closed season repaint. (certainly needs it). Also the sound system is gradually being replaced with some new speakers. (yet to be wired up)
August 1, 20196 yr comment_265658 While I hope that is the case with the paint it did also look like it could be for the staff in terms of loading the boats. There was a single yellow strip also to the left of the red paint. Good to see the speakers being replaced though.

September 26, 20195 yr comment_266739 As much as I think it's a silly decision personally, it should be noted and commended that Rumba Rapids will be open throughout Fright Nights this season, after being closed for the event over the past couple of years. It'll close at dusk as has been standard. I guess with Quantum dead and other rides struggling, they don't want to have to have too many rides SBNO. But the sheer lack of popularity the ride has over Fright Nights, coupled with the large number of staff it takes to operate, I question the worth of actually having it open.

September 26, 20195 yr comment_266742 I’m just glad somethings open (at least until dusk). With the amount of closed abandoned rides I sometimes feel like I’m in a sculpture park or something.
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268284 Does anyone believe the rumour that has been going around the theme park community lately. People have been spreading rumours regarding Rumba Rapids being reverted back to Thunder River as it was prior to the 2002 Ribena Rumba Rapids sponsorship that has since expired resulting in the simple name change too Rumba Rapids. Please share your opinions and thoughts about not just this rumour but the general long term future of this Thorpe Park classic!
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268291 I have not heard of any rumours personally among the coaster community, and don't think we will see anything like that happen. A retheme or refurb would be nice though.
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268294 I'd still prefer "Rumba Rapids", but make it more like a British Expedition in the Jungle. Make an orginasation called River Adventure Tours & Expedition, or R.A.T.E. for short.
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268296 Yup, can fully see the park reverting Rumba back to Thunder. Along with bringing back Pirates 4D and removing DBGT for the return of the Arena. On second thoughts, they’ll probably keep the ride the same until they remove it whenever that is.
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268300 I doubt it's true, if they did revert it back to Thunder River it probably wouldn't mean anything would change other than a new vinyl sign badly stuck over the Rumba Rapids sign.

I assume by "remove" you mean "close it and just leave it to rot"?? 😛 Would be nice to see some form of work done on the rapids to freshen it up a bit but I can't see that being a priority for Thorpe at the moment. Especially if money is tight as we have been led to believe.

January 17, 20205 yr comment_268304 No I didn't I heard someone else say that this rumour was going round the theme park community!
January 17, 20205 yr comment_268311 "Reverting" to Thunder River would mean changing a few colours and the name. They're hardly going to put Thunder's waterfalls and extra rapids back after recent events with rapids rides. The rumba theme is mostly all gone now anyway, it's just a big brown nothing now.
