pluk
Wow, great vid. The tunnel of frog song is one of my strongest memories of the place back then, love it. Slides into the park from the upper level of the dome should return, that's a great way to enter a park! pognoi and Phill Pritchard
c1hrisin
At first I thought the slide stairs were a shot of legoland XD
TPJames
Don't know if this has been shared before... But look what I found!! There's loads of different ones up from past years 2009-2012 all to different tracks, wish the park still made them as they are great! lewumbrajumbos
Looked through many of these online! There are so many for Chessington as well if you look in the right places The shuffling one is still my fav where they start in a bin JamminGamer
BenC
Found this the other day - an old jointly branded Thorpe-Chessington leaflet picked up from my local library, from 2003. The Park had a lot of momentum 12 years ago; I remember how exciting the rapid expansion was. 3 new rides for one season! And I still quite like the old branding of this era... Interesting too that Thorpe has recently reverted to peak / off peak pricing - looking at the 2003 leaflet they had 3 tiers; off peak, peak, and standard! And an off peak ticket would cost you only £19... More in the Total Thorpe Park Archive. Han30, Matt 236, pluk and 2 others
JoshC.
That Spiderman show And I loved the Fright Nites advertising back then; those eyes and that stare really is chilling. 2003 really was a good time for Thorpe really. BenC
Mark9
I loved those years. When the MTDP for Stealth and the 2009 coaster came out it was like nothing at Thorpe was impossible. That Inferno image is just BenC
Benin
That Spiderman show was amazing <3 Points also for that 'Premiere Screaming' event they did for Inferno... Those were certainly the days...
Matt 236
Whilst I didn't visit the park in 2003, it looks to me to have been one of the best years of the park overall. It had a perfect balance then of fun and thrill rides, a decent selection of shows plus lots of atmosphere on top of everything being reasonably well kept. Brighteyes99
On a different point, I'm not sure if people have seen it before but I found a gem of a video from 2002... Oh! That's so amazing! Wish I was old enough to have gone there during the early years, but I would have been to young to remember anything anyway! It's a shame. I never really got to see anything going on (show wise) in the Arena when I began to frequently come to Thorpe Park. Shame really that it's gone now but it wasn't getting a lot of use anyway, except for Fright Nights
Han30
That video is fab! I remember going back in 2002 and not riding Colossus (yeah, was a wimp back then despite being nearly 22) - my sister actually took a camcorder with her and we filmed some stuff but its probably busy gathering dust in some random place never to be seen again. That show in the arena looked pretty cool - I remember a show they did years ago (around 1995ish) - I'm fairly sure that a guy would climb up the top of the stairs then set himself on fire before jumping into the water - if I am completely wrong forgive me - I often dream things and convince myself they are real
pluk
I find 2002, which feels like yesterday to me, being described as 'Thorpe's old days' deeply depressing. Nice video though.
Whiteknuckle
First experienced Thorpe about early to mid 80's. The only thing that was there that still is is the Dome.
Ian-S
Is it just me or did the thunder river (or whatever it was called) have a different layout back in the 80's? It might just be that there was less trees and shrubs around it, or that you could see more of it, but my childhood memories of it are a tad different to the layout today. pluk
Same layout, but was rougher with more underwater agitators and a big rock before the tunnel the boats would bounce off quite harshly. It was all toned down when a led fell out of the boat and had his ear cut off by said rock. Was also a lot more open and sparse with the vegetation having not developed. It's easy to forget this really was barren pit land to start with, with no vegetation or natural landscape at all. Nice video though. I still remember when Depth Charge was a brand new attraction. I guess we can just consider ourselves lucky to know what the old days actually were.
