April 9, 20169 yr comment_231922 Yes, that is true. Last time I went and it was closed. I cried myself to sleep.
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232796 I think I posted earlier in this topic but rumour is that Samurai is currently working but Merlin are not letting the park open it yet.
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232798 I think I posted earlier in this topic but rumour is that Samurai is currently working but Merlin are not letting the park open it yet. If it's working, why would they not let them open it!!?? [emoji58]
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232800 so it doesn't die when it comes to summer lol even though it will probably die after 3 days of operation
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232804 If it's working, why would they not let them open it!!?? [emoji58] Good question, just passing on what I heard from a member of staff.
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232809 I've been to Thorpe Park 7 times since October 2014 (my first visit) and have never seen the attraction in operation...
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232810 I got told by a friend who is staff who is in Samurai's area that Merlin won't open it till Mondial have inspected it thoroughly. This is because of the Fantasy Island Incident I got told is the reason why Samurai is still closed as a safety precaution till Mondial see it.
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232816 I've been to Thorpe Park 7 times since October 2014 (my first visit) and have never seen the attraction in operation...In fairness I've been 5 times since August 2013 and it's been up twice. Once in August 2013 and once in April 2014 I believe.
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232817 I've been to Thorpe Park 7 times since October 2014 (my first visit) and have never seen the attraction in operation... This is the opposite of me. I've been numerous times in the past 2 years and 90% of the time it seems to be operating. Slammer though is another matter...!
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232818 I haven't been on it since April 2014! And I've been 11 times since then and it's never been open [emoji24]
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232825 This is the opposite of me. I've been numerous times in the past 2 years and 90% of the time it seems to be operating. Slammer though is another matter...! 2/5 times Samurai has been open for me and 2/5 Slammer aswell![emoji23]
April 19, 20169 yr comment_232838 I guess if they have to inspect it then fair enough - but can they not hurry up?! The last ride I had on it last year was dire and I'm beginning to forget what a (semi) decent cycle is like
April 20, 20169 yr comment_232841 I'm not saying that the whole "waiting for Mondial to inspect it" story is false but I find it quite surprising that there would be no one available at the company available until Summer 2016 to come and inspect the ride in person. I know ride manufacturers aren't huge corporations but I find it slightly implausible but I'll gladly be corrected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

April 20, 20169 yr comment_232843 The signs say it will open for Summer 2016 not September I get that but even to stay have someone come within a week or 2. Like I said I am unsure as to the size of Mondial but Summer is very open ended and doesn't imply urgency.
April 20, 20169 yr comment_232844 Just saying, wasn't the beast incident confirmed as being a mistake under manual control? So therefore why would Mondial need to check Samurai as it runs in pre-set cycles all the time, not manual control.
April 20, 20169 yr comment_232845 If the reason for the closure is because of an incident on another Top Scan, I imagine Thorpe/Merlin will want to be as safe as possible and cover all bases. Following the Smiler incident last year, it's not all that surprising they want to be extra careful. I'm sure if they could cover all their rides and guests in bubble wrap, they would.
April 20, 20169 yr comment_232848 Is it more they want it running during peak periods and not in quieter periods. You know, the same way they are running Rameses at Chessie. Considering it's terrible downtime over the past few years, that seems quite logical to me.
April 20, 20169 yr comment_232868 That's a good idea, especially when there is a minimum capacity before they run the ride.
April 22, 20169 yr comment_233030 That makes sense given the circumstances, but when it gets to the stage where they are having to prioritise when to run it due to unreliability, surely it's time for a replacement? (And I'm not talking about replacing it with a pay-extra game, an actual ride please!) If Samurai offered something unique then I would understand the reasoning for Thorpe keeping it, but better Topscans can be found both at fairs and parks across the UK, and Samurai seems to have been limping along for years now.
April 22, 20169 yr comment_233035 A ride that's staggered for opening through the year? Well that's new, never before right?
