May 16, 201213 yr comment_137505 Hearing that the Fire effect hasn't been working today and Swarm has had some downtime? Curse of the "S" as Stealth and Saw both having downtime aswell! More of the 'S Curse' as Slammer is shut tomorrow... Anyway great to see the fire finally working
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137506 Nice. Thorpe's only "S" rides that remain operational are Samurai and... Storm Surge.
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137507 Nice. Thorpe's only "S" rides that remain operational are Samurai and... Storm Surge. I'm sure they all reopened since then
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137513 Most likely I must admit Thorpe's ride reliability is sound this year so far (for the vast majority).
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137516 See, this is what I don't get about Merlin. They invest a lot of money into the fire effect, something that will cost a lot of money for years to come, they add these bag rooms which cost more to run then lockers and a storage area on ride platforms and yet we have to see parts of the park closed at the beggining of off peak days or skyrides closed all day at Alton. It's absolutely barmy.
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137517 It's like increasing the experience, but then closing part of it at times so that it neve quite moves forward.
May 16, 201213 yr comment_137519 We have fire!! What time did this turn on? I was there yesterday and I didn't see it go off at all

May 17, 201213 yr comment_137526 I dont know if this is just me being dumb, but surely the flame, if the wind was blowing the wrong way, could hit the car and riders? Just a thought
May 17, 201213 yr comment_137527 With UK Health and Safety I'm sure everything has been considered, it's most likely just the angle of the camera which makes it look much closer to the track than it really is.

True. Plus with the water effect the towers over the fire engine, I dont think the flame will get to high up, because it should be put out within seconds
May 17, 201213 yr comment_137537 I'm sure there is also a maximum wind speed that the effect can work at, as seen on X2 and Terminator/Apocalypse...
May 17, 201213 yr Author comment_137542 To all those worrying about the closeness of the fire... A video of it in action, it will go off when the train flys overhead I assume that would mean the zero-g roll, which is more or less above the engine. Thus, no worrys about getting burnt. Should look very nice from onride if that's the case!
May 17, 201213 yr comment_137544 No fire today, On ride DVD's didn't appear to work but were turned on and didn't get a look at the LED's!
May 19, 201213 yr comment_137573 No fire or LEDs this morning but there was a reference to the fireball on News 16 that I'd never heard before. Someone called up and were talking to the host about how the fireball lit up their house so maybe this has been added into the video as the fire is hopefully going to go live soon.

Or it was there all the time and you never noticed it?
May 19, 201213 yr comment_137596 It's always been on the news loop, sorry. But I'm sure the effects will be put into action soon, keep calm!
May 26, 201213 yr comment_137684 Sorry if this has been posted before, but I found this 360 vitrual tour thing of The Swarm. I like the station on the best. http://www.sphericalimages.com/virtual-tours/swarm-thorpe-park-virtual-tour
May 26, 201213 yr comment_137685 Looks good, Shame the capacity of Swarm wasn't able to be as good as shown in the 360 tour, with 3 trains on track at once!
May 26, 201213 yr comment_137694 Photos seemed to be having problems today! Even closed early! No fire effect yet but LED's looked good!
May 27, 201213 yr Author comment_137702 I tried to take a couple of photos yesterday, don't know how well they've turned out though - will check tonight. Worth noting that in sunlight, they're hard to notice (as sorta expected I guess). Also, the 3 lights for eyes light up in a sequence, as opposed to all being on constantly.
May 27, 201213 yr Author comment_137710 Double post. Unsurprisingly, the photos I took yesterday don't show the LEDs. Can't wait to see them when it's not sunny; will look so much more effective. Also, love how the water jets have been increased in power, especially on the helicopter turn around. I knew they'd been turned up a bit, so thought that I'd get a little splash, especially being at the back. I'd have LOVED to seen my face when I realised just how high they were, would have been priceless. I was just shocked till the last inversion from it. Cements the chopper turn as the favourite part of the ride for me, and back-eight as my favourite seat.
