March 2, 201411 yr comment_177540 Storm Surge isn't good, we all know that, but it's not exactly like we were promised much more than a ride which would just spin you round and get you slightly wet. The point is it could be good. The ride experience was good when it first opened IMO, but since then the material on the slide that makes you spin isn't there/doesn't work, it leaks, squeaks and they never finished the job properly. Also the puddle of water in the rafts which could be easily prevented with an aqua vac (similar to the one used on Valhalla).
March 2, 201411 yr comment_177543 I had almost forgotten about the horror that is Storm Surge. Then I looked at this thread and saw the above picture. Yuk, going to have nightmares tonight...
March 2, 201411 yr comment_177545 Thorpe (under Merlin) have managed to get everything opened to the promised quality on time. Don't see why Angry Birds Land would be any different. Were you at Thorpe on the opening day? Half the queueline they had only just finished painting in the morning and was still wet!
March 2, 201411 yr comment_177547 That wasn't Opening Day though; that was the AP Preview Event. Admittedly, Storm Surge was a bit of a mess for the Preview Event, but other than that, everything else has been fine.
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177554 I have noticed thought that they have slightly coped better with throughput throughout the year. Telling people to remain seated untill the other boat entered from unloading. People just used to get up as soon as it entered which meant that only one boat would be unloaded at a time instead from two.
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177556 To be fair, if we wanted to be facetious about it all, Saw did technically open on time, even if it was just for an hour.. I can see that my point did ignore a couple of points, but the general point I was getting at is that Thorpe have never left anything till the last minute, and other than the 2011 AP event, have never opened anything new half-done or anything, Why would there be concern that Angry Birds Land would be rushed, incomplete and poor quality given that track record?
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177557 I'm with you Josh. Compared to the horrors that Alton and Chessington have unleashed, Thorpes record is near exemplary. I bet they quickly learned their lessons when Vortex opened three months late in 2001 and since then, Thorpes rides have always opened on schedule. There's no "quick get the queue line built" like Alton.
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177559 What rides at Towers haven't actually opened when they were meant to aside from Smiler? Cos, Thirteen did (by the skin of its teeth granted, but it was still open), as did Sub Terra (whatever people say, I enjoyed the original version of it, though I missed out on the apparent nothing was working day) and Ice Age... Same question extends to Chessie as well, though that of course only extends to Zufari as the only ride they have built in the same time frame we are looking at...
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177560 The only thing Storm Surge is good for is eating up the queues for other rides.
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177561 I don't understand the continual hating on Storm Surge. It is a laugh when your in a large group of friends. Yes it stands out a little bit, but I prefer it to Octopus Gardens.
March 3, 201411 yr comment_177588 If it was positioned better and looked better people wouldn't complain. The experience is good and that's why people return to it.
March 4, 201411 yr comment_177610 Why are we talking about Storm Surge now? What does that have to do with a bunch of short-tempered birds?
March 5, 201411 yr comment_177651 Everyone stop talking about Storm Surge here, we all know its not pretty, kthx.. move on.
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178152 As Benin pointed out in the map topic, both the cinema and dodgems have fastrack. The cinema, whatever. But the dodgems, with fastrack? Hell on earth. What are they thinking?
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178154 A cinema with Fastrack is still pretty dodgy to me; how long are we meant to wait for the film?! And yes, dodgems as well will be something I want to...dodge when it's busy and Fastrack is available for the ride...
March 13, 201411 yr Author comment_178155 That said Detonator no longer advertises it has fastrack. I cant see the cinema being to badly effected by it tbh.
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178157 Depends, assume it's a 15 minute film, what if in the time it takes to wait loads of Fastrackers turn up? See it happen on Zufari as an example, what with the pre-show... I think the correct word would be, unnecessary...
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178165 Neither a 4D Cinema or Dodgems warrant a fastrack, it's greed in it's vilest form.
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178166 Why waste time on a Dodgems fastrack when you can go to a local fair, pay about the same amount and get a longer ride with probably faster cars.
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178177 Tweeted by the park's Marketing Director. Nice promo image as well!
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178179 With all this new brand marketing I feel like I should buy an Annual Pass... But can't quite gather why...
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178182 I really like the "new look" Thorpe branding - it looks almost, dare I say it, professional?
March 13, 201411 yr comment_178209 I love the look of that construction fence. In years gone by (and at other parks) the only effort to hide the construction would be a simple sign excusing the mess.
